• Paddy McCourt signs for Brighton

Paddy McCourt is the surprise inclusion in Albion's squad at Elland Road tonight, being named on the bench having signed a one year deal with the club.

The 30-year-old former Barnsley, Celtic and Derry City midfielder takes the number 20 shirt and joins the club after passing a medical at St George's Park yesterday, following a successful week-long trial.

Manager Sami Hyypia said, "We have seen enough of Paddy in the last week or so to know that he is a player who has quality going forward; he is the type of player who can pick a pass and create a chance.

"Paddy is a player who sees the right passes, at the right time, and I hope he can help us in terms of creativity going forward and to help make some chances for us.

"He knows the Championship, having spent last season at this level with Barnsley, so he knows what to expect from this league - and he also brings additional experience to the squad."

McCourt made 23 appearances for Barnsley last season, scoring twice including a starring dsiplay at the Amex, where he scored as the struggling Tykes upset the odds to beat the Albion 2-1.

Prior to that the Northern Irishman spent five years at Celtic, having moved to Parkhead from Derry City. He played 89 times in the green-and-white hoops, scoring ten goals in the process.
