• No Ward double for the Albion

With Stephen Ward as good as an Albion player, the club have missed out on landing his namesake as Derby's Jamie Ward, a recent target for the Albion, has signed a contract extension with the Rams, keeping him at Pride Park until the Summer of 2016.

The lively 28-year-old Northern Ireland international played a key part in Derby's promotion push last season, scoring 8 goals in the process, although he was a substitute in Derby's opening day victory over Rotherham.

The Albion are looking to give Sami Hyypia more attacking options after the departures of Leonoardo Ulloa and Will Buckley, as well as failing to land long-term target Adam Clayton who has recently joined Championship rivals Middlesbrough.

    Jamie Ward: staying put

Paddy McCourt, who starred for Barnsley at the Amex last season, remains on trial with the Albion as he tries to impress Hyypia and earn a contract with the club.

He looks like one of those players who you wouldn't enjoy playing against. Just what we needed.
