With the summer (yeah right) break over, time for me to put virtual pen to paper once more. I never bothered with a write up of the anticlimactic Bristol City game, the unfortunate 2-0 defeat, away to David Stockdale’s Norwich, nor the rather apt last second cancellation of the title celebrations at Villa.

It’s that time of year when the football experts and "football experts" alike predict who will slip through the Premier League trapdoor to the Championship. Both the predictions and the betting markets themselves suggest the Albion will have to pull out all the stops to avoid an immediate return to the Football League.

Chris Hughton's players are back for pre-season and looking forward to their tough opener against Manchester City, but with this morning's signing of Markus Suttner, only three new faces have been added to the squad so far.

Brighton & Hove Albion celebrated ebulliently after securing promotion to the Premier League in May - and who could blame them? The Seagulls haven't troubled the top flight for 34 years and narrowly missed out 12 months previously and they deserve their place amongst England's elite. It will take a significant effort to secure survival in an unforgiving division but emulating Sean Dyche's Burnley could be the best way to approach it.

Chris Hughton has spent just four full seasons managing in the Championship. In that time he has won two promotions (inc. one title) & reached the play-offs during the other two campaigns, with a fourth placed finish at Birmingham his worst season in the second tier.
