There's been a lot of talk about the Albion not investing in the team in recent months, so NSC has trawled the archives to see whether or not the club has splashed the cash in finding the most expensive signings in the history ...

On St Valentine’s Day in Yorkshire, the Albion and Sheffield Wednesday treated their respective supporters to the footballing equivalent of some out-of-date Matchmakers and a bunch of wilted carnations from a petrol station. The Seagulls’ misfiring strikeforce continued the theme of the day by serving up a score of - in tennis terms at least - love. Again.

675 away fans made the 450 odd mile round trip, largely in less-than-expectant mood, for a contest between the lowest scorers in the Championship, and the notoriously impotent

After a stalemate against Cardiff in midweek saw the gap between them and the Championship bottom three close once again, Albion will achieve something they've been unable to do in almost 101 years if they are to get back to winning ways at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

Tuesday’s result in the Welsh capital was a game of few chances for Chris Hughton’s side, as they failed to provide much of a threat to the home side and were unable to find the breakthrough they needed to pick up a first win

In 1983 Liverpool signed one of the highest paid players in England from a south coast team that had just been relegated from the top tier, at the time he was earning about £1,400 a week from his former club. The new Premier League TV deal announced earlier this week could herald the first £500,000 a week player. This will be an increase of nearly 36,000%, where at the same time average wages in the UK have increased by 345%,

Many fans have, in the past, found reason to gently mock local newspaper sports king, Andy Naylor, for the perceived quality of his Albion coverage. Well mock no more, folks, as by the time you read this, there is highly likely to be a two page spread in today’s Argus documenting the events of last night’s goalless draw with Cardiff City. And, frankly, anybody who can stretch a commentary of this game to two pages of a newspaper, deserves a Pulitzer Prize and a large beer.

So- without actually having seen the report- bravo to you, Mr Naylor.

Having been beaten for the third time in a row at home at the weekend, Albion will be hoping to winning ways on the road as they head to Cardiff for a midweek evening encounter with former boss Russell Slade.

The Seagulls looked firmly in control of Saturday’s contest in the first half of the game against Nottingham Forest, and after seeing a number of chances go missing earlier in the half, Lewis Dunk seemingly put them on track when he found the net on 42 minutes.

However a defensive mistaker from David Stockdale was capitalised on minutes later, with Brighton’s

    Albion 2 - 3 Forest

I rounded off my last report (Ipswich) by declaring that football is brilliant. It's not. It's infuriating, deeply frustrating and often unjust.

Once again here, as so often, and far too often to put down to rank bad luck, the better team lost. Forest, much like Blackpool last week, were there for the taking - a team and a club in turmoil. The owner dropping hints he was about to walk away. Further FA sanctions imposed, on top of an existing transfer ban, for failing to pay monies owed to another club. A club hero sacked as manager,

After a narrow defeat away at Blackpool last weekend saw the sides below narrow the gap between them and the Championship bottom three, Albion will be looking to move back on up the table this afternoon as they take on a Nottingham Forest side who have rung in the changes in the past six days.

Chris Hughton’s side were unable to find a way past the division’s basement side seven days ago, with the Bloomfield Road pitch playing a part in them being unable to play their football and put the beleaguered Seasiders under pressure.

In the end the contest was decided by a

Having put on a battling performance in their 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup last weekend, Albion will now put all their efforts into survival in the Championship as they return to the league action at basement side Blackpool this afternoon.

The Seagulls encounter with the Gunners saw them get off on the wrong foot, as they sat back and gave the Premier League side time to dominate the ball and play in the first half, meaning that they went in at half time two goals down.

However a fighting and dogged performance in the second period

There was a moment during the second half of Brighton and Hove Albion’s narrow loss to FA Cup holders Arsenal which encapsulated everything which is great about Rohan Ince.

After a dogged pursuit of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, Ince extended one of his telescopic limbs and executed a perfectly timed sliding tackle on the Gunners’ talisman before rising to his feet and starting an Albion attack with a graceful canter

After putting on what many consider to be their best performance of the season against Ipswich in the week, Albion will be looking to take that confidence into today’s fourth round clash in the FA Cup as they play host to holders Arsenal in front of a sell-out Amex crowd and the BT Sport cameras.

Chris Hughton’s side sealed an emphatic third win of the season at home as goals from Sam Baldock and a Joao Teixeira brace saw them pick up a 3-2 victory over the Tractor Boys, who have been one of the hardest sides for teams to beat in the Championship this season.

    Albion 3 - 2 Ipswich

What a night. Some commentators have opined, at times, that there is a stark choice to be made between playing to win, and playing to entertain. Albion fans this season, would have liked to have had either one. When it all comes together, it truly is the beautiful game.

Following smug Eddie's plucky men fluffing their lines at Elland Road on Tuesday night, Ipswich arrived at the Amex, knowing that a win would put them top of the Championship table. More than one Tractor Boy tweeter

With their unbeaten run of five games having come to an end at the weekend, Albion will be hoping to bounce back at the first attempt in tonight’s midweek Championship game against third placed Ipswich, with the visit of Arsenal in the FA Cup just round the corner.

Chris Hughton saw his side beaten for the first time as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Amex to Brentford in his first home match since taking over as Brighton boss three weeks ago.

Coming away from the game with nothing to show for it was harsh for the Seagulls to take, considering

    Albion 0 - 1 Brentford

Since Boxing Day the world of Brighton and Hove Albion had been one undergoing big changes. A new manager had arrived, in Chris Hughton. The side had notched up three successive wins. We'd stopped conceding crap goals. A bit of luck had fallen our way. Even Chris O'Grady had become good.

Indeed, much had changed since the last match at the Amex. And yet, nothing had changed...
