I don’t know the full history but would guess it’s an example of yet another dodgy owner running a great community club into the ground while the football authorities stand idly by, looking in the other direction

Went there, (or may have been their previous ground) in the 80s. On the club coach to Hull when it was called off when we were just miles away, so we agreed to go and see Southend at Scunthorpe. We were on a terrible run and Southend were flying. Their fans seemed non plussed when 50 extra away fans joined them and we were looking forward to a rare away win.
Scunthorpe scored the fastest goal of the season and we were officially a gaggle (or Rookery) of unwanted Albatrosses (Albatross?). Southend lost 4 nil and we were subjected to much cursing all the way back to the coach. I didn't bother going to the resceduled Hull game as midweek was a killer and I'd seen us win there in the cup.
