He could do Shakespeare too. I saw him play Falstaff about 30 years and he was very good.

I think I'll always associate him with The Navy Lark - something that brightened up those gloomy 60s Sundays.

Gloomy 60's Sundays. Deserves a thread of it's own. Mrs Earle's family never even had a radio. Goodness knows how they survived! Anyhoo RIP old fella.

Hopefully we will get Carry On Teacher or Carry on Constable on ITV4 at the weekend in tribute?
The Carry Ons were akin to Marmite really. One either loved them or hated them, very little left to middle ground.

Personally l was in the latter camp and found the humour excrutiatinglwy unfunny. All down to persaonal taste though . . . obviously.

Leslie Phillips had far more than Carry On films to nis bow though, R.I.P.
