Sussex closed the gap on Frizzell County Championship Division One leaders Surrey to just five points after cruising to their fourth win in a row against Leicestershire at Grace Road.
The visitors, who needed 163 for victory, knocked off the runs for the loss of five wickets to collect 21 points and keep their own title hopes alive.
It was their sixth win of the season and once again they owed a big debt to Mushtaq Ahmed who took five for 96 in Leicestershire's second innings for match figures of 10 for 189.
In-form Tony Cottey, who scored 147 in the Sussex first innings, led the way again with another half-century before being fifth out five runs short of the victory target when he was bowled by left arm spinner Rupesh Amin.
But Cottey had to survive a testing over from pace man David Masters when he first came in. Leicestershire had a confident appeal for leg before against Cottey on the first ball he faced rejected and then umpire John Steele also turned down a claim for a catch behind in the same over.
Cottey went on to steer Sussex to the brink of victory, reaching his 50 off 77 balls with six fours and a six.
But the honour of striking the winning runs went to Robin Martin-Jenkins who crashed a four through covers off Jeremy Snape.
The platform for this fourth successive win was built during the morning sessions when Sussex made inroads into Leicestershire's second innings, claiming four wickets for 12 runs in 10 overs.
The collapse followed a sixth-wicket stand off 63 between Trevor Ward and Snape which promised to provide the home side with a big enough total to set a competitive target.
But Mushtaq had Ward caught off bat and pad at silly point by Matt Prior having reached his first championship 50 of the season and that triggered the clatter of wickets.
Phil DeFreitas drove a catch to cover off Martin-Jenkins, David Masters edged a catch behind off the same bowler and then Snape was run out going for a quick single.
And when Charles Dagnall popped up a catch to slip off Mushtaq soon after lunch Leicestershire's hopes of their first win of the season had been crushed and Sussex romped home.
