Ah..that's where I'm going wrong. I was looking at EU websites and what's on guides in Berlin when the best place for listing all the events is of course the Institute For Cultural Diplomacy website. D'oh! Schoolboy error.

"...According to the European Calendar, 98 events will to be held. Those of particular importance are the events presented by FEZ-Berlin (Center for Families and Youths), with activities for the whole family. Several lectures will also be held, such as the one held by the Greek EU Council Presidency"

Man...you Germans know how to party.

Just what we need this morning, a smug Tory ******* advocating the positives of suffocating anti democratic global capitalism under the auspices of an anniversary no one gives a f*** about.

You could of course refer to this as Schuman day, as it is known in other EU countries, a day of celebration amongst some EU supporters that lacks that little bit of je nais se quoi.

The answer..................

How is the campaign going?

Changing subjects slightly, what did you make of the game last night and how do you rate our chances in the second leg ?

I can't get excited about Europe to be honest.

I believe in it rationally. It's a fantastic club to be a part of and I wouldn't want to withdraw, but my heart isn't in it if it comes to flag waving - except when it comes to the Ryder Cup.

Just as I'm more interested in individual European countries and their cultures, my heart is British.

Can't seem to find David Cameron's 'Happy EU Day' video anywhere online. Can't believe he hasn't done one.

Yeah right.

Now I know you don’t think you are a Tory, but if German leftist grandee like Oskar Lafontaine is opposed to the euro (and what the EU has beome) based on their own leftist political doctrines (similar to Tony Benn) then surely that places you on their right?

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/jul/16/germany-left-doubt-single-currency

To quote this article, because I don’t think you deal with detail very easily……………….

"Lafontaine has come to realise that the euro acts as a mechanism for Germany's aggrandisement at the expense of its neighbours. By keeping unit labour costs low, Germany has gained a massive competitive advantage within the eurozone, thus accumulating surpluses and becoming a lender to the world. It has ruined peripheral countries by forcing them into a position of deficits and debts. It is now damaging France and Italy, since its entrenched competitive advantage means that these core countries are increasingly faced with deficits and debts. The only clear beneficiaries are big exporting businesses and big banks in Germany and elsewhere."

Of course with your German connections, you may be happy with the EU based around a powerful Germany dominating and impoverishing its European neighbours………………..that could make you a certain type of socialist even further to the right of the Tories.

Enjoy your day…………………ein volk, ein Europa, ein Roumpoy.

The latest Ipsos-Mori poll about attitudes of Europeans towards the forthcoming EU elections is quite revealing:

63% of Germans with little or no interest in the elections and more or less the same as the UK. (And also within that survey is proof that the Spanish really don't like Merkel at all.)

It seems that your average sceptical, disinterested Little Englander is far more in tune with his European cousins than the political elite that Herr Tubthumper loves so much.

Cant say I was surprised with the outcome, but that does not mitigate the disappointment, particularly on the way back home last night.

I thought Buckley, Orlandi and JFC were all poor, and overall we lacked the neat incisive passing and touch that the Derby players had.

As with other games this season we lack the ability to leverage any tactical advantge from the pace in our team, and yet I think offensively that is when we are at our strongest. Unfortunately that does not augur well for our game on Sunday where we have to chase the game and Derby may be willing to sit back and take the ball from our steady plodding attacking forays.

Nonetheless, I will be at Derby more out of duty than hope....................overall on my tissue I would say we should be 4/1 to qualify.

I hope it suffers the same fate as the SU.
I can't find anything to like about another level of political morons.
