But it could be strongly argued that's a by-product of the Premier League clubs downgrading it in their priority lists, a sort of trickle-down apathy caused by the likes of Man United and Chelsea fielding their B teams. Perhaps it lessens the incentive of a smaller club to excel if they know the best case scenario is an away game at a half empty Stamford Bridge against a bunch of unknown Swiss/Slovakian/Greek internationals and a few England Under 21s?

Fair point, though in relation to Chelsea they're one of these teams where their so called second 11 is eye watering. Chelsea v Bolton a couple of weeks ago springs to mind. Unlike some of the other premier league big guns. Man City are up there with Chelsea in that regard.

But should the clubs not see it as a chance to knock these sides out?

its still a fairly decent crowd, Spurs Vs Coventry a two seasons ago in round three got a crowd of 35k, so still a decent pay day.

The whole thing is pointless till the 1/4 finals sadly, that wont change - I dont know anything that will change that, offering a Champions League spot wont work.

Saying all that, most of the recent FA Cups have been won by big clubs.
