By the way, the media has likened Brighton's approach to the famous Boroussia Dortmund talent production line. Here are Dortmund's transfer dealings: https://www.transfermarkt.com/borussia-dortmund/alletransfers/verein/16

Over the last three seasons, five transfer windows, Dortmund have sold Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham and their balance over the period is +€92.6m. Over the same period ours is +€82.95m before the Caicedo deal. Once the €133.3m is added from that, minus what we spend on replacement(s), we will have made more money than Dortmund did whilst they were selling, (at the time of sale), three of the most feted players in World football. At the same time as doing this we have climbed 10 league places from the start of 21/22 to the end of 22/23 and qualified for Europe.

Let's stop for a minute and just acknowledge that this is an absolute miracle. This is the club that just 25 years ago were 91st out of 92, didn't own a ground and needed us fans to do a sponsored walk to raise £25k to sign Rod Thomas from Chester City!

A sobering note is that this level of success continuing would be further more miraculous, and seemingly even more unlikely. So, enjoy it while it lasts. We've crashed the party and need to neck as much free champers as quickly as possible. Surely it won't be long before the one of the hosts notices and calls security.

Whilst you say even more unlikely……there’s a decent number of our current squad that would already make us absolutely enormous profits…..and we’re just starting to see the first ‘true’ academy products starting to appear. A bigger risk is there might be fewer idiots like Boehly around in future throwing money at any player he thinks is worth buying.

Anyway, it’s staggering.

Fascinating looking back through the years on this. Gross and Veltman really are incredible deals when you look at what they have given the team.
Just shows good recruitment doesn't require huge amounts of money, just an eye for a player.

I love they way we operate even if it does mean we lose some talent along the way. The future potential values of Mitoma, Pedro, Fergusson, Enciso, Adingra and others could be through the roof!

Dunno, but it's a shame we're not sponsored by Skint any more.
A distinct memory was when we played Barnet who were sponsored at the time by Loaded magazine.

Brighton Skint. Barnet Loaded.

On today of all days, how things can change...

The reality is that to stand still in the PL these days you probably need to spend close to £100m - So far Brighton have spent something like £70m and I suspect there might be another signing before the end of the transfer window.

With two key midfielders gone the important part in spending the money is to get the right people in. Not everyone will work out - but as long as competent replacements are found then things will be okay.

That coupled with bringing some quality through the underage structures will make the success sustainable.

An eye for a player and a detailed knowledge of the stats and contract situation of every suitable player in World football. I was talking to a Luton fan on Saturday and explaining that the monied teams have looked at our recruitment and employed anyone involved, when we all suspect that they should be trying to buy Starlizard.

Transfer Markt sales don't include addons or sell on income/outgoings,.

It's still a very healthy position, particularly as the size and quality of the squad has massively increased over the past 3 seasons.

Believe we got £40,000 for Dean Saunders, and £220,000 for Mike Small from West Ham.

Don't forget to add those on.

They tried that at Spurs last season but we managed to sneak back in the door again while nobody was looking

And where would we be without a billionaire fan owner? It’s all relative I guess.

Being able to make loans to the club when finance could not be raised from investors has been important, but it's the vision of how a club should be run and operated that is the most important. We are damn lucky to have Tony Bloom whichever way you look at it though.
