Government is a tough position now. They missed the chance of a windfall tax on the north sea, if they do it now they were be accused of stealing Labour's policies and pissing off the Tuffon St crew.

Yes, and with BP announcing this just before local elections, Labour will (understandably) be saying nothing else in the run up other than this

what we need to ask, is the call for a windfall tax or more tax. OBR expects tax revenue to increase from £3.1bn to £7.8bn. meanwhile Labour wants £1.2bn raised from a windfall tax. is that in addition to the extra £4.7bn? or rolled in to that so they say something without changing anything. our politicans just arent very honest or clear, so we can argue back and forth and find out something else happened anyway.

also that £1.2bn is worth £44 per household, or £133 if only given to 9m households (heard Starmer say that number this morning).
