David Stockdale has hailed battered and bruised Solly March as a symbol of Albion’s desire to win promotion.
But he admits they must be ready to handle defeat as they tackle their toughest week of the season.
The Albion goalkeeper has spoken of his emotions during the dramatic 3-2 win over Charlton and what he expects from big tests against Derby, QPR and Middlesbrough.
And he reckons the leaders will need more of the spirit shown by their young winger when he got back to his feet after suffering a cut to the head and played a man-of-the-match role to help beat the Addicks.
Stockdale told The Argus: “Look at Solly. He got a knock to the head, he’s got a headband on, he’s not experienced at this level, he is just coming into his own and look at him.
“He fought for everything, set up the victory just about and it shows you how much he wanted to be out there.
“With the headband on, blood coming out of his eye and he’s out there doing the same old tricks. All credit to him.
“We will need that character because Derby is not an easy place to go – and what a good team they’ve got this year!”
Derby are likely to bring back Scott Carson in goal in place of Lee Grant as they chase a sixth successive home win.
First-choice Carson missed the 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday with a back complaint.
Jeff Hendrick is competing for a midfield start in Paul Clement’s 4-3-3 set-up.
