I guess he might be going to North Greenwich for some unknown reason.
Much easier to go overground to either Westcombe Park, Charlton or Blackheath. The first two options being the closest, Blackheath having the best pubs.

It worked out cheaper for me, getting 2 advance singles from southern to London Victoria. Then buying a return from clapham junction to charlton, going via waterloo. You wont be with as many albion fans and it is the long way round but it may work out cheaper so try it.

The south eastern bit is just a group save that you can buy from any station on the day.

The other bit you can buy from one stop travel in the Old Steine.
Not sure if you can get all the way to London Bridge on Southern trains though.

According to the National Rail website Group Save tickets can be used on the following train services.
