Racist abuse in D block last night

Hi Paul,

I am sad to report that after the stupid behaviour of the Colchester subs late in the game last night, someone in D block felt the need to hurl racist abuse at them. Sadly, whoever it was was behind me so I could not report them myself and I am concerned that many people must have heard it who could identify the culprit chose not to do so. I do not believe the culprit (Or his vociferous mates if it was who I think it was) are regulars so hopefully there will be no repeat.

My main concern is that when the abuse was shouted, I looked directly at the steward in front of D block and I am sure he heard it from his reaction and his subsequent gaze. The Colchester players also seemed to hear it as they all turned as one. And yet nothing was done. Stewards seem keen to kick out people who stand but seem happy to turn a blind eye to "banana boat" references (As well as the constant homophobic chanting of most away teams I might add.)

Can the club please reiterate to the stewards that the club is an active supporter of the "Kick it out" campaign and is not just paying lip service to it? I was throughly ashamed to be an Albion supporter leaving the ground last night and was sad that I was unable to make a direct report to stewards as I couldn't know for certain who it was. (Although I had a fair idea.) This is only the second time in over fifteen years that I have heard direct racism at a football match (Once coincidentally by a Colchester fan making comments about George Parris) and I thought this kind of behaviour had been stamped out in the early 90's.

Thanks for reporting this. I have passed it onto to the right people at the club who will investigate the incident.
