Bank Holidays - just not as good as they used to be

It might be that I am just getting older but bank holidays just don't feel the same.

3 things that make a good bank holiday :

Football

Disney time

All day drinking and/or BBQ

I am going out for a little bit of the 3rd one - the all day drinking is beyond me now - been superb weather though

What makes your bank holiday ?

It's shit because nothing is open. Which is just annoying for ONE day, because you can't really achieve anything in that time. I'd like all bank holidays put in one week, so that the country simply has a week off. This almost happens at christmas, so why not have a summer week's rest too?

Bank Holidays are just one of many things that aren't as good as they used to be, including, unfortunately, both me and Brighton and Hove Albion!

No, leave christmas as it is. Just arrange ALL the bank holidays to fall in a week in July and have that week as an extra holiday. Then we could all do worthwhile things, like go abroad. A bank holiday is just like another Sunday, and they already waste 1/7th of every week.

Maybe my memory has gone missing, but I'm sure there used to be a full football fixture programme on an August Bank Holiday?

We had a Bank Holiday Monday game in 2001, thrashed Blackpool 4-0 (Oatway, Carepenter, Steele, Zamora), in front of 6,696 fans!

That's only because the Mods haven't tried to ban the Rockers....yet.

Oh how the travel companies would love that. They already bump up the prices at this time of year so it would be yet another excuse to rip us off. Then again, I'm sure Network Rail would love to have a full week to tighten the bolts on the tracks while the fare paying passengers are put on a fleet of 30 year old replacement buses.
