Brighton and Hove Albion | News | Latest News | Latest News | Slade is Albions New Boss

Russell Slade has been appointed as the club's new manager. He has agreed a deal with chairman Dick Knight until the end of the current season and takes up his post with immediate effect.

The 48-year-old former Sheffield United, Grimsby Town and Yeovil Town boss was offered the position yesterday evening after the conclusion of the club's managerial selection process.

Knight said, "Russell was on my key-candidate shortlist from the beginning, his CV speaks for itself. He impressed when I first met him, he has the confidence to make things happen and I know he gives that to players. He has an excellent record and I am delighted to welcome him to the club."

Slade's first full-time managerial appointment came at Scarborough in 2001 following caretaker spells at Notts County and Sheffield United. Slade had an amazing impact, leading the Seadogs from bottom of the Conference to a 12th place finish.

A seventh-place finish followed in the very next season despite Scarborough going into administration. In 2004 he took over at Grimsby Town, where he led the Mariners to the League Two play-offs, only to suffer defeat to Cheltenham Town in the final.

Slade left Grimsby in 2006 to join Yeovil, where in his first season he took the side into the League One play-offs. Having beaten Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals, the Glovers lost to Blackpool at the Millennium Stadium.

Despite the defeat, the achievement won him widespread recognition, and he was voted League One Manager of the Year in 2007. Slade spent two more seasons at Huish Park, before leaving the club in February.

Assistant manager Dean White and reserve team boss Bob Booker, who have both been in temporary charge at Withdean, will remain with the club to assist Slade.

Knight added, "Dean and Bob have done an excellent job in the last fortnight and Russell is happy to work with them to ensure continuity in the coming weeks."

Slade will meet his squad for the first time this morning, ahead of training in preparation for tomorrow's visit to Leyton Orient.

Quite happy with the decisison and he gets my 100% support. Just wish he'd brought his own team with him. This loyalty to White and Booker is worrying.

Oh right so he WAS on the list all along. At the bottom under the ketchup stain?

Anyhoo, Mendoza is right, let's all get to Orient and give it some, Scott McGleish, is a wanker, is a wanker!

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
He's got my full support, I cant be arsed reading all the other posts on his appointment, but I am assuming the Chuckle Brothers (White and Booker) will remain on.....

If so surely he deserves a chance to work with his own people.

Does he come off abit desperate to have accepted a contract till the end of the season, I'm sure Gannons offer would of been quite different!

That said I'm more than happy we now have a manager in charge and his cv is actually very impressive

Best of luck to all going on saturday
