Way out West
The idea of Saints' easier run-in (based on us having to play 4 of the elite) ignores that they also have 2 of them left.

If we assume that we automatically get zero points from our four games, then it should logically follow to assume zero points from Saints' two games. (pretending that all those games are out of the way first) this leaves the respective sides as follows:

Albion on 35 points with 2 games to play
Saints on 28 points with 4 games to play

If you follow the same process for all the bottom 9 sides:

Watford 37 (4)
Albion 35 (2)
WHU 35 (3)
Swans 32 (4)
Hudds 32 (2)
CPFC 31 (5)
Saints 28 (4)
Stoke 27 (4)
WBA 21 (2)

Possibly the most useful post on this (or any recent bed-wetting) thread - many thanks. Goldstone 1976 was right to highlight Huddersfield. And no doubt that was one of the main reasons we stead-fastly went for the draw on Saturday after the Propper red card. Some guys around me were getting worked up when Ryan just hung on to the ball and wasted time at the end, but I'm sure the instructions were just to see the game out (and perhaps hope for something on the break).

It,s ok saying a point or two will be fine, but where are they comming from ?Looking at our last few games we are going ot be on 35 points at the end of the season is that going to be enough?

Where can you see Southampton picking up 7 points from the following games, Leicester (away), Bournemouth (home), Everton (away), Swansea (away) and Man City (home)? They’ve not won in the league since Feb and not won at home since November. Plus they’ve got the added distraction of their FA Cup semi.

Stoke need to pick up 9 points from West Ham (away), Burnley (home), Liverpool (away), Palace (home), Swansea (away). They’ve not won in the league since January.

We are limping over the line but it’s going to take one of those turning the form book on its head for them to catch us now.

When you factor in goal difference, Saints probably need to win 3 games if we pick up 0-2 points to overhaul us. Their fixtures;

Leicester (a)
Bournemouth (h)
Everton (a)
Swansea (a)
Man City (h)

Plus an FA Cup semi in there to distract them

Goal difference won’t come into it for us and Southampton, currently they are 5 goals worse off than us. If we don’t pick up another point this season then that wipes out our 5 goal advantage so they only need 2 wins and a draw to overhaul us. Still picking out where their points will come from is very difficult.

Even more difficult is picking where 1 point for us is coming from.

Worth a bounce now!

We conceded three today with a very poor defensive performance in the first half. From a winning position Southampton also conceded three. It's the fourth game in a row that they have conceded three. They probably have to win three of their last 5 games to get to 36 points. They have won three of their last 25 matches. Two of these were against West Brom. The other was in November. They have two separate threads on their board titled 'Now We Are As Good As Down' & another remembering their favourite moments over their time in the Premier League: https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?5-The-Saints.

Our heads are down because we lost the derby. The odds on us going down went in to as little as 8/1. The Southampton fans were pleased to have gone out to 5/2 when they were two nil up. After their collapse and Huddersfield's last minute winner they are now around 1/2. https://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/relegation

I don't think I'd be sticking my neck out by saying that they would be quite happy to swap positions with Brighton. Even if they didn't fancy their chances of surviving from our position they could win a lot more money by betting on it.

And add Swansea into the mixer !

They could easily lose all their next 3 - against Man City, Chelsea and Bournemouth. They then play Southampton and Stoke, which means guaranteed dropped points somewhere.

Can you imagine how we'd be feeling tonight if we were 2-0 up today & then lost 3-2?
It must be demoralising for them

Your comple shower of shite are staying up this season, stop worrying.

One point more and you’re there.
Don't even think we need a point to be honest.

Cases can be built for Stoke, and Southampton not overhauling us, and even for Huddersfield not getting another point, or for a Southampton / Stoke revival torpedoing Swansea.
