Has anyone heard of local lad Rag N Bone Man? Apparently he's an Uckfield bloke who was on the hip-hop scene for some time but has moved on to full on soul singing very much in the same vein as Michael Kiwanuka and Algiers. I've been listening to the album this morning and he has got one hell of a great voice. The album starts really well too with the title track from his album 'Human'. I can see this album going down very, very well with the Radio 6, Jools Holland type listener and maybe a Mercury Prize nomination. My one complaint is that the album is a bit one-paced and with the deluxe edition there's 19 songs that wear you out by the end. There's no denying his talent though and have a listen to this tune. I wonder if @CHAPPERS has heard of him.

D'Angelo Saxon wil be able to tell you more but he's a n MC that has been kicking around for a few years as part of the Rum Committee crew. Will still pop up at local shows and rap and all that. Don't know him personally but lovely bloke by all accounts and that does come across. Deserves all the success he's getting IMO, great voice.

Check this out, produced by my favourite local producer (though not anymore), 184.

Basically an American guy called Davey Samek who's travelled around his home country a bit and picked up all kinds of influences. Stumbled across a compilation towards the end of last year 'To Whom the Scarecrows' which is on spotify and contains this

Has a new album out some time this year called 'Sugar Lemon Hogwhistle' which contains this

Odd but likeable.

This is ace.

FFO: Ariel Pink.

I would imagine Buzzer has already beaten me to it but I just heard a gorgeous track and was mega surprised it was by former-Pipette and SHC fantasy girl Rose Elinor Dougall. It's got that Jane Weaver, Josefin Ohrn thing going on that's pretty popular right now.

It is very good isn't it? I did post about it earlier and compared her to Roisin Murphy and St Vincent. It goes to show that with this album and Gwenno's last year just how much talent the Pipettes had between them and what a shame that second Pipettes album destroyed the band.

I was given a promo copy of Clap your Hands Say Yeah's new album out next week titled The Tourist. I think this could be their best yet. Some great tracks on there esp this one

Also, Dreadzone's new album 'Dread Times' is another good recommendation. It was released last Friday and even though they've been going for yonks they've not lost their edge. I always compare them with The Dub Pistols who try to be a 21st century version of The Specials and some of their tracks, even their albums come to it, don't quite hit the mark with a massive hit or two in amongst a lot of filler whereas Dreadzone tend to go for a more balanced approach.

Roughly more of the same compared to previous albums, but still find it fantastic jogging/working music. Supremely ambient synth and drum jams. FFO - MuteMath, Boards of Canada

Moon Duo - Occult Architecture Vol. 1

Bought this on a bit of a whim and a half-recommend. Jury's still out but it's an intriguing mix, opening track evokes Black Rebel Motorcycle Club but the rest is more varied.

Whilst I'm here, this seems a good place to let the good people of NSC know that my debut full-album V.O.T.T.O.L. is out today as stream, download and CD via Bandcamp (link below).

https://damselfly1.bandcamp.com/album/vottol

Of local interest, A Hunter Gathers is a meditation on / tribute to the Shoreham Airshow Crash 11, The Harrow Ways is inspired by the South Downs and Boar's Head Waltz is for Lowther's Lambs / The Royal Sussex Regiment.

I hope some of you enjoy the music, feel free to let me know what you think (good or bad, it's all character building!)

Cheers,

Darren

If the album shows even a fraction of the promise of the Damselfly singles thus far, then this promises to be one helluva stunning debut. Think early Underworld. Think dark and long. Seen from the post above that Buzzer's already on a 'like'. Good sign! Paging Herr Tubthumper. Oh, and everybody else also. Take it on trust. You won't be disappointed with that online order

Thanks THPP, lovely feedback to hear.

Initial sales of the limited edition CDs with album artwork stickers going very well, so if anyone is interested in bagging one of these let me know.

A general big thank you to all on here who have supported this and previous releases, makes it all worthwhile. D x

London O'Connor - O^

This album is as difficult to describe as the album title. He has a very languid rapping style (think PM Dawn) but it's certainly not a hip-hop album and he doesn't rap often. He does also sing (after a fashion) on a few tracks and about the nearest I could compare it with is Gonjasufi but he doesn't sound anything like that either! I guess it all boils down to a very intriguing but still quite accessible collection of tunes.
