50 over one day game, there are no wide balls, no wides, no extras and no overthrows.

What is the maximum number of runs that a batsman could score in an ideal case scenario, having to keep strike for the next over.

1401. If there is a ran 5 on the last ball in every over and the last ball can still go for 6.

(5 x 6, plus 1 x 3) x 49, plus (6 x 6) = 1653

Working on the basis that you stated NO OVERTHROWS, and it is 'impossible' to run a five without mis-fields / overthrows. If you are allowing fives then the answer is effectively infinite, as he 'might' run a seven or a nine, or a forty-three...

As this is a hypothetical puzzle it is possible to run any amount off the last ball in this scenario with the batsman at the non striking end baacking up really well.

Bowler X has the following stats this season. What is the maximum number of wickets he can take?

County Championship Div 2: he takes the wicket of odd numbered batsman only with an overall strike rate of one wicket very 63 balls
50 Over Competition: he takes the wicket of even numbered batsmen only with an overall strike rate of one wicket every 43 balls
T20: he takes both odd and even numbered batsmen with an overall strike rate of one wicket every 23 balls

This is the answer usually given - but I like the running 5 scenarios - it would be the most mental game ever i.e

Wright not out 1653
Nash not out 0

meanwhile... back in the surreal world of Specsavers County Championship Division Two:

128.6 Garton to Gleeson, no run

128.5 Garton to Gleeson, no run

128.4 Garton to Gleeson, no run

128.3 Garton to Gleeson, no run

128.2 Garton to Gleeson, no run

128.1 Garton to Duckett, 1 run

End of over 129 (1 run) Northamptonshire 465/7

Given the state of the game, what is the point of this??

Tail enders nervous about nursing Duckett to his 300

Does he play in 20 20 finals and 50 over finals and plays every innings possible in CC games
