Just added my 10k pb in for completeness... suppose I'll have to find a 10 mile run to get the set, shame that the Hogs Back Road Race is such an odd distance at 11.7km!

Bloody Worthing!
Thanks guys. Brighton sounds a bit of a nightmare either way if it's a choice of being held up or holding up others.

I think I might sign up to Hampton Court (I have a friend who lives there so it's not a completely random choice) and then enter Hastings or Worthing nearer the time.

Have not done the Worthing one (might do it in 2018) but I know the course - flat as the proverbial and very fast. Suit you, sir?

Just watched Himalaya on catch up. The Everest Marathon is featured from 40 minutes into the programme and comes back for last 5 minutes. The marathon starts near first Base Camp at 5,100m and runs down and some big ups to Namche Bazaar at 3,400m.
The incredible Nepalese woman, Mira Rai wins and a local farmer comes 5th.
I've walked the route twice up and down and it's incredible but breathing is difficult. I'd like to know if top sea level athletes could beat these high altitude Nepalese. Have to be fell runners, I guess.
Great event for the Tenzing/Hillary charity.

My old boss who got me into running in the first place (I was 18 stone and lived off pasties, basically) did that a few years ago, said it was the hardest marathon he'd ever done (he's done over 300). Seem to remember he took about 10 hours, and they had to acclimatise for a week before the race and the food was horrendous.

That's more my sort of course! I am tempted by Worthing. It's where I do most of my Parkruns and almost all my training so it seems rude not to take on the HM now I'm up to that distance.

I'm off to Bevendean Parkrun in the morning for the first time. I'm hoping the weather will put even more people off than usual and I'll get my highest ever placed finish. Is it really as bad as it sounds?

Piece of cake. Two laps going uphill and downhill. Run first uphill at a slowish pace determined to run fast over the top of it and when you start it second time give it respect and smash it as you get near the top. All downhill and a nearly level bit to the finish.

A mini mini Hasting's half marathon done twice.

I'm impressed. 10 hours sounds good to me. It's a 2-3 day walk.
We walk in for 14 days from Jiri and have good acclimatisation and love the food 80% of the time but maybe not at the Gorak Shep start. I wouldn't want to hang around for a week acclimatising and eating the food without hunger.

Bevendean is definitely on the cards for me, the challenge is waking up in time to get there. Tomorrow isn't the one. I'm doing my 2x10 mins hard with a 3 minute break again. This time the plan is to get to either the Promenade or Hove Park at 8:30, smash out the session and then pootle around the parkrun at 9, in 30 minutes. That's the plan, if I'm not able to achieve that in terms of getting up in the morning, then I'll just have to abstain from the parkrun.

See you at 8:55 then, I can sense you're primed and ready. I could handle a nice chatty 9" run.

Will be an interested observer if you do make it. I ran Bevendean a couple of weeks ago in 24.21 and our pb's are similar. Don't expect conditions will be great, it could be a bit slippy all on grass. For the record I finished 7th so unless you break a leg it will be your highest placing. One tip on the course there is an early gradual incline (that I assumed was the hill) but this turns into a much steeper extended climb. You can't see it from the starting point. The bevy is a great cheap community run pub well worth a visit.

I won't be park running this weekend but will be running the hellingly 10k. Fully expecting a marginal bettering of my PB.

If it's possible to enjoy a road 10k this one comes closest for me. Flat first mile then a 2 mile slog up to Grove hill then turn and give it some beans on the 3 mile downhill to the finish. I normally run it but was too late entering this year. I'll try to head along at the finish. Good luck

21:56 at a flood altered Eastbourne park run today. My times aren't improving much but I'm much happier with my race management as kept a fairly consistent pace all the way.

Nice chat with Ninja this morning at a steady 9ish mile pace. 27" or thereabouts. A parkrun equivalent of a coffee morning. Couldn't resist the final run in but unable to check pace as garmin connector in car in garage in Worthing. I'll check it on Ninja's Strava who easily followed me in still chatting away.
Little chat with the boys afterwards now to get ready for the pub.

Planned to join TCB and co at Bevendean but a prang on the 23 at Patcham meant we crawled through and only just made Preston Park. Was ambitiously aiming for the 22 mark but stitched near the end and ended up 22.26. Previous best 22.27 at Worthing so it's progress.

Any tips for not getting a stitch on a morning run? Seems to be a regular occurance 4k down. Never really know whether to eat or drink in the morning, half a banana and a cup of water this morning obviously didn't work!

9:07, 8:44, 7:53, (5:14). Always a pleasure Gaffer, especially the sprint finish! There's a lot of pace in those OAP (for the day!) legs.

I did the 2 x 10 mins before the parkrun, reversed the parkrun course in effect. I only just about hit 5k. I think I need to think about the warm up, because I really felt like I should have been able to do more. The sprint finish with knocky1 in the actual parkrun is the pace I should have been able to run that whole session at. I think it takes me quite a while to warm up, so I need to spend more time warming up beforehand. It was a good mile or so jog to get to Hove Park, but maybe I need to throw in more short and sharp sprints at above the race pace. I need to think more about the warm up in order to hit the top speed sooner and for longer. 6 miles in the tank by 9:30 is unheard of for me though, so it's all positive!

What was the route? Did it last week and it was "out and back" because of wasps. A flat course but not sure I particularly enjoyed it as at no point can you really see where you're going - there's not many straights as it's so round!

Similar out and back as last week but in the opposite direction. Turned out to be slower than usual as the path had been re gravelled and was like running along the beach in places. It's a tight twisting park run but I've learnt to tell myself I'm having fun.
