I broke mine at lunchtime today. Benneton burger with Chorizo. Hands down, easily and by far and away the best burger I've ever had. Can't believe I beat [MENTION=409]Herr Tubthumper[/MENTION] to it, though living in Berlin gives him an excuse :)

I just wish I still worked round the corner from them ..... my waistline is glad I don't !

After some top snow dogging post match with Mrs Hut, 10 bagged decided to finally get to the New Club opposite the i360.

Well what a gem of a restaurant it was.

Excellent red wine, starters or pork belly and squid which were very good and both had the steaks, nicely cooked.

Definitely worth a re-visit.

Ha. I was planning to visit yesterday but ended up having 3 pints with [MENTION=31796]alfredmizen[/MENTION] and [MENTION=3099]Lokki 7[/MENTION] for my lunch instead.

Will visit over Christmas.

Yesterday I switched to a Classic Beef at Burger Brothers from my usual Simple Jack. ****ing fantastic it was, so so good.

Nothing gets near it in Brighton.

Went to Fourth & Church last night with a long-standing Albion fan, and our partners. We arranged some hot dishes to go with their standard (modern English) tapas fare. Had a fine time. It really is one of my favourites in the city for the following reasons: extremely well-executed tapas style fare; relaxed atmosphere; attentive, intelligent service; decent value; and, comfortably the best wine selection in the city, and in terms of value, it ranks even better.
We drank:
four glasses of unfiltered Tio Pepe fino
Chablis Descouverte Patrick Piuze
Talley Chardonnay
Barbera Vajra
a half bottle of Sauternes

We were plied with dishes, all of a very high standard, before getting the hot dishes. Too full for dessert or cheese. With a tip, that came to £260, i.e. £65 a head. That sounds a lot, but factor in that if we drank that wine in a standard restaurant, the wine alone would cost comfortably more than the bill we paid.

Still think Trolls Pantry is better than Burger Brothers but it is very close.

Is it just me that think Coggins is vastly overrated though?

Still not tried Coggins. I have always been a big fan of the Troll going back to the Wood Store days. However, since the move to the shack, I don't think that they are as good. Not sure if it is because Nibbler is on the grill but they don't taste as good. A mate went there post match yesterday and said that the burger had an nasty after taste. I hope he gets back up to the old standards but he is a bit bored of burgers so is trying other things out at The Druid.

Burger Brothers continue to deliver a consistently good burger and show no signs of letting up. The only problem I have with them is that they are so popular it is sometimes hard to get through the door let alone get a seat in there.

I cannot understand why people will rate a burger restaurant or in fact visit one except as a snack but each to their own.

Can say that about a lot of restaurants though surely? And in fact I would never have a burger at home as it would be crap compared to a specialist place.

True, although the whole "gourmet" burger fad at the minute is grating a little bit.

Agreed, some do it well though but for me, less is more. Not a massive fan but have a lot of lunches in London and do enjoy a Meat Liquor, Bleecker St or Byron burger every now and again.

It doesn't take much kit to knock up a decent burger at home. I have teenage sons and the occasional barbecue that justifies this investment.

1 Burger press - if you prefer loose packed patties you don't even need one of these.
2 Wax disks
3 Cast iron griddle pan
4 Burger dome
5 Water spray

You can buy quite decent brioche buns in the supermarkets (I have tried Aldi and Waitrose little difference other than the cost).
Making your own relishes is also an option. I have a large tub of sweet chilli sauce in the fridge, which took around 30 minutes to make from a pounds worth of chillis from Shoreham market.

I have had a couple of burgers lately from the Trolls Pantry hut under the bridge and no complaints from me on quality.

Yeah, these nouveau-riche hipsters need an alternative to pork scratchings. Try instead triple hand-cooked sweet potato wedges, served on a rustic wooden board alongside a home-made artisanal slaw.
