This. Also the sort of desserts I go for are normally far smaller than my cereal would be, so it kinda makes sense when you think about it.

Absolutely this. I DO use a teaspoon (rather than a dessert spoon) for stuff like ice cream though. Makes it last longer.
EDIT: And I see I'm not alone in using teaspoons for eating dessert.
Another vote for soup spoon here!

I have no problem with a tea spoon for desserts especially for ice reams etc.
If however its a solid pudding with custard etc then a dessert spoon is still required.
Use a teaspoon for cereal and desserts, carrying on from childhood.

I think they got it right in the first place. Teaspoon for stirring tea, dessert spoon for eating desserts, tablespoon for serving at the table and greedy bar stewards, soup spoon for soup.

Dessert spoon and table spoon are not the same thing. I guess the "serving spoon" you mention is actually a table spoon? #spoongate
