Great catch by Ben Stokes at gully... Broad gets Rabada in the final over of the day..

South Africa 220-9, trailing by 142

The most curious thing..
Does that mean SA avoided the follow on? Can't remember if it is still 150.

Hopefully SA will not add too many more runs so we a have a lead of 130+ in which case another 200 -250 will see us home I think. What is the largest 4th innings winning total at Old Trafford?

For entertainment value it would be best for England to be all out for 120 setting South Africa 250 to chase. Hope Root gets his 11th consecutive 50 within that total. He's then only one away from equalling AB de Villiers record.

Have I read it correctly in 2005 Australia were 371 for 9 in the 4th Innings at OT chasing 421 and the game finished up a draw.

Yes although they may have been chasing 423. It was when queues were all round Old Trafford on Day 5 with everyone trying to get in. Australia never looked likely to win, if I remember, but hung on with resistance from the tail. We would have had most fielders around the bat.

On that assumption we need to set a high target.

Wicket was east to west then. Changed by 90 degrees in 2011 to be South to north. Weather was better in 2005 for batting. 250 should be enough here but they'll obviously want more.

All the usual suspects getting out cheaply, looks like Root & the middle order will have to get us out of the sh*t once more.

Seriously the top 5 places (aside from Root ) have been as dodgy as hell in this series, the Aussies will make mincemeat of them...

Down to Root and Stokes again. The only positive is if SA can bowl us out we should be able to do likewise to them.

What is the answer to our top order batsmen other than Cook and Root?
