Due to lack of training and fitness the few occasions I've 'raced' this year have resulted in disappointment and pain. I did a half marathon in 1:56 yesterday and feel worse than I did after doing a marathon. Therefore in an attempt to motivate/shame myself to pull my finger out here are my PBs:

5k SB 21:59 (60.35%) Preston Park Parkrun Jan 2017
5k PB 19:40 (66.36%) Swindon Parkrun 2014
10k PB 43:27 Calne 2014
HM PB 1:35:00 Swindon 2014
M PB 3:43:03 Brighton 2015

That's a really impressive profile and your HM1:56 will soon be a bad memory. Good luck with stepping up the training.

My 1:49 HM on Sunday has had an unexpected outcome. Having attended the prize-giving at the end of the race and came away with a 2nd place in my Age Category, I noted that when the results came though that I'd actually won, This is because I entered on the day and the organisers didn't take those entries into account (even though they had done in previous years). So I'm chalking this up as a win. (These things matter when your times are crap but not as crap as those of other old gits.)

If anyone fancies setting a 10 mile time for the NSC table. Lewes are taking entries for the downland 10 on 1st October. Not a quick course but should be a popular event. Anyone else signed up?

On NSC for over two decades...
Suppose Ninja Elephant had better throw in my best Yateley 10k time from this years series of 38:31 for completeness... you'll have to wait for a marathon time until next year when I've actually done one!

I'm still waiting for Ninja Elephant to sort the table by average pace over the 5 different distances. He's showing incredible talent, enthusiasm and perseverance.

Been stretching my toes and ankle mostly these last few weeks. Feels good. May finally be getting somewhere with the working but sore Achilles. Decided to do a few easy Parkruns.
First hope to meet Simgull this Saturday to wish him well for Berlin. Hove Park?
Then a couple of tourist runs to fit in around walking some Welsh peaks and ridges. 16th September Colwyn Bay looks an ideal tourist jog.
23rd September Cardiff along the Taff, this time with a bar code. 142 miles too short for Pembury ? if not see you there.

Yes Hove Park on Saturday - be good to catch up.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think I'm good enough for a hilly HM yet. This time next year I hope to be up to runs like that as it would be very satisfying.

I'm currently looking at HMs. I say looking, what I really mean is I'm desperate to sign up again. There are four I'm considering - Brighton, Worthing, Hastings and Hampton Court. All of them are in February and March. Does anyone have experience of either what these courses are like or how quickly they sell out? Ideally I'd like to book two of them so I imagine I need to act fairly quickly.

Wise words. For next year Brighton half has too many runners but has to be done at some time in a Brightonian's life. The other I've also done twice is Hasting's. This one is a great community run but is uphill for the first 6 miles, steeply downhill for the next 5 miles and a fast flat finish on the prom for the final 2 miles. This can produce a fastish time but not a pb. I'd like to be at Hasting's next year but will never run Brighton again.
Brighton you need to enter early Hasting's up to race day. Worthing is on my to do list.

Ooh, I do love a SPREADSHEET. Can I add my times despite my woeful lack of posts on this thread?

M: 4.01.25 - Brighton Marathon 2011
HM: 1.38.48 - Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon October 2016
10k: 39.06 - Toronto Sporting Life 10k May 2017
5k: 19.22 - First half of Toronto Sporting Life 10k May 2017 (I haven't actually done a 5k)

I need to do another marathon. That time doesn't really match up to the others.

Taking part in a Ragnar Trail Relay tomorrow in to Saturday. Starting at 3pm, teams of 8 people take it in turns to do three legs of approx. 8k through the night. It's going to be great fun.

Good running times there. You'll have to do a 5k though as segments of longer races or training runs are not allowed under strict NSC rules. Get down to Toronto Parkrun pronto.
I love a spreadsheet too but I prefer the metaphorical one where a computer application program automatically adjusts the existing data when any new data is input. Individual columns can then be ranked by a click of a mouse.

I'm sure Ninja will add you in and someone from earlier in the week, if not I will when I get near a PC.

Some strict rules there. There isn't a Parkrun in Toronto but I will try and enter one of the numerous other 5k events here. Working my way down from Marathon to Half to 10k to 8k to 5k :lolol:

Do you think it has too many runners to the point where it will impact on time? Or is it just a case of inconvenience?

That's useful to know about Hastings. It does look a nice course, but I can obviously leave that one for now and decide nearer the time. I think I should get a place at either Brighton or Hampton Court in the bag ASAP as they sound like the ones that sell out.

Brighton is a nightmare, I was crowded for the first quater, minimum. You have to really bully yourself ahead of the pace you think you'll run, but if too many people do that, it traps people. It's tough to balance. Worthing I quite like because of the amount of twists and turns, you have plenty of room to space yourselves out. I ran it from the back this year, literally the last person to start, and I cruised through the field. It was the best race I've run in terms of tactics and enjoyment the whole way. I'll be doing that for certain, but not Brighton.

I'll update the table either tonight or tomorrow to add the newcomers - but as knocky1 says - parts of other races can't count I'm afraid Badger! I've got Bad Ash to add in as well, he won't be forgotten!

I'd also vote for Hastings as the best event. BRighton has to be done but is too crowded, too expensive and the course is too familiar.

Haven't done Brighton for 8 years. I believe it's much busier now. Groups of up to 10 slow runners get up near the front for the start and block the way. Making it start and go. Two options either go right up near the front, set off at your target pace and get in other people's way or start a little further back and relax for the first half mile. The boys on here will tell you more.

Might as well tick Brighton off, you'll get a pb I'm sure.

I'll be in Toronto for the last weekend of October - any decent running events on? There are two Parkruns nearby but I guess that's in Canadian terms so an hours drive out of town?

You'll be a week too late for the biggest event in Toronto the Toronto Waterfront Marathon (with half and 5k too).

Yeah, I wouldn't bother trying to get to the Parkruns.

Looks like there's the Halloween themed Toronto Monster Dash on the 29th.

Also, MEC hosts a lot of runs. http://events.mec.ca/

It was 8 reps of the slope between the Marina and the A259. Like last time, one of the reps wasn't tracked properly by the GPS. Into the wind I was only able to manage between 47 and 52 seconds per rep, I was looking for 45 but it wasn't the day for that. I'm happy with the session, hardest 6:32 of my life!

My best half is 1.36 something (Brighton, about 10 years ago probably - think it was the last one I did) if you want to pop that in when you're next updating

I'm on the volunteer crew at Hove Prom this week if any of you are down there. Dunno what I'm doing yet but it's not pacing. Farnham Pilgrim marathon on Sunday - had a slightly niggly calf this week as I have been trailling some orthotics to help get rid of a bit of metatarsalgia (nothing dramatic, hasn't stopped me running) but will still rock up I think. It's a beautiful race - fabulous scenery over the North Downs, Loseley estate etc and really well organised. Think there are 12 aid stations !
