I'm going LARGE on Port this Christmas if that's all the gogglebox has to offer.

We never turn the telly on, unless there is something very specific, such as an new episode of Dr Who, to watch.

Last year we* watched the entirity of Box of Delights on DVD. I absolutely love that.

This year we have my mate 'Bob the Social Worker (retired)' and my son round for a massive blow out, and TV can take a walk.

*Alright, it was me. Everyone else put up with it for my sake.

edit: only kidding. It will be Eastenders, Corry, Pets win Prizes (reprise, 'what happened to those prizes?' episode), Only Fools (Omnibus) and the Reginal Bosanquet 'News at Ten Headlines that shocked a nation' compilation, all the way, at chez Tackle this Crimbo. With a ****ling great bottle of Tia Maria.

Doesn’t get switched on round here on Christmas Day. Boxing Day is usually a film in the afternoon. Couldn’t think of anything more depressing than sitting staring at the tellybox on the actual day. A good walk, good conversation, music , food and booze. Where do people find the impulse to all stare at the telly?
I’m working Christmas Day night anyway.

Somewhat disappointing ITV don’t have anything on from their Christmas schedule until next Wednesday. Channel 5 have been showing Christmas movies since 1st November.

The BBC has released its full Christmas TV schedule - including a six-part adaptation of Les Miserables and the return of Idris Elba in Luther.

Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders, a new interpretation of Richard Adams' Watership Down and Andrea Levy's The Dong Song are also lined up.

And old favourites such as Mrs Brown's Boys, Call the Midwife and Strictly Come Dancing return to our screens.

Mary Berry and Nadiya Hussain will both present their own cookery shows.

Charlotte Moore, director of BBC content, said: "We've got a wonderful array of stars to keep everyone entertained, with the very best in drama, entertainment, comedy and documentaries over the festive period.

"There is something for everyone and I know our audiences will enjoy the fantastic range of magical treats on offer across the BBC. The jewel in the crown undoubtedly being the return of Mrs Browns Boys. Alongside Morecambe and Wise, The Two Ronnies and Only Fools & Horses, Mrs Browns Boys has become a staple of Christmas Day across the nation and this years episodes will once again be tickling the nations collective funny bone."

As has become tradition, another David Walliams' book has been adapted for the festive period - this time round, it's The Midnight Gang.

Take That mark their 30th anniversary with a special one-off programme for BBC One including a special collaboration with Rylan Clark Neal and younger viewers may be keen to catch the animated version of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's Zog.

The stars of Goodness Gracious Me will celebrate the show's 20th anniversary alongside celebrity fans of the hit BBC Two series.

John Barrowman will be showcasing an LGBT perspective on Christmas in a 3 part series 'Christmas Gay' on BBC Two.

Documentaries focus on the likes of comedian Billy Connolly and The Snowman author and illustrator Raymond Briggs.

The festive edition of Doctor Who will be shown on New Year's Day on BBC One instead of Christmas Day for the first time since the drama's return in 2005.

Another treat for Foodies is a special one off return for old favourite Ready Steady Cook, the cult classic returning to our screens presented by family favourite Ainsley Harriot and former stars Brian Turner and Lesley Waters alongside two mystery A list former fans of the show.

Watership Down, about a warren of intrepid rabbits, features an original song from Sam Smith and will be split over two feature-length episodes.

It boasts a stellar cast including James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, John Boyega, Gemma Arterton and Olivia Colman.

Separately, award-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies - the subject of a documentary also shown over the Christmas period - has adapted Victor Hugo's novel Les Miserables for the small screen.

Dominic West takes on the role of Jean Valjean in the French classic, with David Oyelowo as Javert and Lily Collins as Fantine.

John Malkovich will return to BBC One playing Poirot in The ABC Murders, with Rupert Grint appearing alongside him as Inspector Crome.

Ken Dodd will be remembered in How Tickled We Were on BBC Two, with the channel also seeing Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan exploring some of nature's celestial wonders and winter wildlife.

Stars returning to Strictly include Anita Rani, Ann Widdecombe, Moira Stewart, Dick Strawbridge, Jake Wood and Michael Vaughan.

Arts offerings include Swan Lake from the Royal Opera House on BBC Four.

And there will be four Top of the Pops specials on BBC One over the holiday period presented by Vernon Kay.

Aled Jones will celebrate Christmas in Edinburgh with a thousand Songs of Praise viewers, while the Queen's Christmas Message and Carols from King's return once again.
