I don't know when the FA will announce the squad for the UEFA European U-19 Championship finals, but as the competition kicks-off a week on Monday (July 16th) it must surely be in the next few days.

As I understand it, a number of the players who attended the La Manga training camp in May will not be participating in the Finals, so there must be a decent chance of Max Sanders being included; here's hoping.

Can only be good for these youngsters. Whether they break through into the PL or not, I hope we get more and more of these stories and players can get good careers at Championship level and above, plus be good enough to be loaned out to L1 and L2 regularly rather than lower down the pyramid.

Just looking back at my opening post on this thread - he was warming up on the touchline alongside someone who, less than 4 months later would be playing in the World Cup Final, and somebody else who played in the World Cup semi-final.

Max Sanders has made the squad for the Uefa U19 Championship!

First match tomorrow at 4:30 v Turkey on Sky.

http://www.thefa.com/news/2018/jul/16/england-u19s-squad-named-for-euro-finals-160718

Due to it being so late in the year it's a very inexperienced squad. Top 5 teams qualify for the U20 world cup in Poland next year.

The squad:

Goalkeepers: Ellery Balcombe (Brentford), Jamie Cumming (Chelsea)

Defenders: Trevoh Chalobah (Ipswich Town, on loan from Chelsea), Nathan Ferguson (West Bromwich Albion), Ed Francis (Almere City, on loan from Manchester City), Tariq Lamptey (Chelsea), Dujon Sterling (Coventry City, on loan from Chelsea), Japhet Tanganga (Tottenham Hotspur)

Midfielders: Tom Bayliss (Coventry City), Elliot Embleton (Sunderland), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Nya Kirby (Crystal Palace), Adam Lewis (Liverpool), Max Sanders (Brighton & Hove Albion), Marcus Tavernier (Middlesbrough), Kelland Watts (Newcastle United)

Forwards: Ben Brereton (Nottingham Forest), Niall Ennis (Wolverhampton Wanderers), George Hirst (OH Leuven), Ben Morris (Ipswich Town)

No Sancho/ Fogen/ Brewster though i see...

Brewster, I believe is still injured, but the others are away with the first teams for pre-season. No Mount either, who is still young enough. Over 20 withdrawals in total I understand, and probably why the official squad has only been announced the day before their first match. Other countries impacted too, but it will hurt England's chances of a successful defence.

I think the main objective will be to qualify to the U20 world cup. It's unlikely we'll retain our crown. It's hard to fathom why they had the U17s in May and the U19s now, rather than the other way round as it's somewhat devalued the tournament.

Congratulations Max!

Hopefully he can get some gametime and we can watch him wipe the floor with those pesky continentals live on Sky!

Sanders is the oldest member of the 20-man squad (although, of course, is uncapped at international level).

Max Sanders has started for England U-19s this afternoon:-

Unfortunately Turkey took the lead after only two minutes.

Can anyone recommend a stream where I can watch this?

It's on Sky sports football. Sanders is spraying the ball about like Jan Molby.

My scout mate has been raving about Max for a while now - Reckons he's the real deal. Only time will tell.
