Vokes was. One of many striker flops in that period. Amazing how he improved his game up several levels.
Wouldn't want to sign Blackburn's Hope Akpan for the same reason although he's nowhere near good enough. Made some homophobic remarks about gay TV presenters when he was playing for Crawley.

On football ability alone I would sooner we signed Gray rather than Wells who I think is greatly overrated but not sure that either is the player we need.
