Wouldn't surprise me if it's not a lot to do with increases in insurance, if my car insurance is anything to go by. Probably fewer companies that will insure coaches too, so harder to get a competitive quote. Especially if they're looking to insure themselves against things like motorway closures causing lateness, breakdowns, last minute fog cancellations etc.

Insurance premium tax has doubled from 6% to 12% (by June this year), so there's a big chunk of the increase.
Fuel prices are higher than they were 12 months ago and with the current global instability will be only heading upwards for the next 12m.
All reasons for a moderate increase in costs to Seagulls Travel, over and above over inflationary impacts.

All are probably true but how many coaches, if any, do Seagulls Travel actually own, all the away coaches are hired from other companies. I appreciate that their charges may have increased but surely they would put their routes out for tender around April time for the next season.
Maybe they have already (would think they must have) and they've been hit with 30% increases.....

ST do not own coaches. They are travel agents who specialise in theatre trips and now run the ST franchise. My guess is that they have quite a task in getting coaches and buses to meet their expanding routes. Not every coach operator wants to commit to such a regular commitment and those who do may ask premium prices.

I would have thought that many operators would welcome the regular commitment, certainly during the leaner winter months, when many of their coaches would be sitting in their depots unused at the weekends.

Why is there an increase when there are FOUR less matches to travel to ?
Hi CS. You may be right but I recall the coach driver when we last went to Aston Villa telling me the big earner in the winter is to be on call for the railways as replacement bus service in the event of a incident. Even providing vehicles for planned engineering works was a good earner as well.
Apart from that are you old enough to remember when lovely Southdown ran the 17 route? Super dd's which did not divert into Cowfold. Used to love sitting in the front seat upstairs as a wee boy!
To further reduce the cost to the club of subsidising travel to games? Just asking.

My wife & I, both season ticket holders,have been using Seagull Travel for the past three seasons. We are very pleased with it and consider it really good.value for money. We have never been let down, as those who advocate using public transport have; we have a guaranteed seat, rather than suffer the overcrowding offered by public transport; on our return to the coach park we can board our coach immediately, rather than queue for ages in the often really bad weather in the open air. These are just some of the reasons we are pleased to be with Seagull Travel. The many moaners on here, who complain that they are paying a bit more for fewer games, might care to consider how much less they will be spending on pies/pints etc at the Amex for those fewer games. I am sure that the amount they "save" on these apparent necessities will far outweigh the extra Seagull Travel costs. As other respondents have suggested, if you don't like it, don't use it. Plenty of others will.

Hi Old Man. Yes I most certainly do remember Southdown. I have only been living in this part of the world since 1989, just before the Stagecoach takeover.
Southdown were running single deckers on what was then the 107 route, and I wasn't aware that the service was ever double deck operated. Indeed, if it was today, then the bus wouldn't be able to get under the railway bridge in the Brighton Road in Horsham!

My company's prices may rise slightly by 2% for coach hire. No more than that.
Why the price has risen by this amount I cannot answer.

No, but less games also means less revenue for the club.
The loss of revenue from 8 games must amount to quite a bit.
