Great to hear so many Albion nanes doing well today. Ashley Barnes goal. CMS hat and Towell running the show at Rotherham (despite them having lost).
Fingers crossed the current team continue this on Monday!

Barnes also got MOM, hard to believe that some Albion fans insisted, very loudly on here, that he was shit

In fairness to many of his critics on here he was young and not pulling up any trees for us and missing many easy opportunities but he has progressed and got better with age, If he was still with us those same people probably wouldnt be saying the same about him

Hmm, so that made him shit and ripe for abuse from his own fans? Not buying that, he was a very good player for us from when he arrived, young or not. Some people just can’t admit they were wrong about him, even now.

Not disagreeing with you just pointing out that he is streets ahead now in every aspect of his game of what he was for us. Hence we sold him for only £750k now he would cost a few million.

He has umproved beyond recognition.

No, he was sold so cheaply as he only had 6 months left on his current deal at the time.

Looks like exactly the same player to me with the same attributes, in your face, aggressive, runs himself into the ground and scores some worldies whilst missing some simple chances. What’s changed? Yes he has improved but beyond recognition? Nah.

I am guessing you were one of the haters back in the day?

Are they the ones who never shut up about it and have to bring it up on here every time he (rarely) scores?
Or the ones that are no longer bothered?

In a funny way, I was much more upset about Barnes leaving than, for example, Ulloa, Bridcutt, E. Bennett, Bridge, Noone, maybe even Murray. He came to us as such a non-entity and left a versatile team player capable of moments of brilliance. Of course as a young player he did cock up, miss penalties, make mistakes, but I was always happier when he was in the team. Really good management from GP there to be fair, I'm not convinced anyone else would have seen anything in him.

Until Hemed took over the number of goals scored, Barnes was the highest scorer at the Amex. Quite a few of us were gutted when he was sold off so cheaply. That summed up the club at the time Burke was here.
