appear to have dropped the xx17 services to Eastbourne. they're on the time table that starts from the 11 Dec, but missing from National Rail. have SASTA imposed an emergency timetable and not told us?

Edit: with the Littlehampton service losing the xx47, so one an hour to each rather than two and splitting at Haywards Heath.

RAIL UNION RMT releases text of letter to Ian Prosser, Chief Inspector of Railways, at the ORR:
Dear Ian SOUTHERN GTR DISPUTE You will be aware of press reports over the weekend with allegations made by RMT and ASLEF over train crew sitting around in mess rooms, available for work while services were cancelled by the franchise holder. You will also have seen that Southern/GTR have categorically denied these assertions. RMT have been forwarded documentary evidence that prove the case we have been making. You will see from the enclosed documentation that all services between Bognor Regis and London Victoria and all services between Eastbourne and London Victoria, which were scheduled to run on Saturday 10th December 2016, were cancelled on 9th December 2016. In the enclosed e-mail the Sussex Route Control Manager states that this “will leave a surplus of train crews”. Although the plan goes on to say that these staff can be used to cover “the no cover list” we do not believe this happened and train crew were left sitting in mess-rooms when they could have been running a service for the public. As well as our continuing concerns that Southern/GTR are deliberately manipulating events to put the dispute in the worst possible light but they are more importantly failing their customers on a safety and an economic level. These two communities were effectively cut off from the capital for 24 hours in a wholly unnecessary way. I would be pleased if you would examine Southern/GTR’s actions in this instance, considering all the evidence available to you and report back to me on your findings. Yours sincerely Mick CashGeneral Secretary Ends Note for editors:A copy of the route control plan for Saturday below:From: Sussex Route Control Manager

A must read for anyone who wants to know more about the dispute, seemingly written by an unbiased commuter.

An interesting read.

Read it and it's clear that nobody, absolutely nobody, from the Government, Southern Management to the Unions is blameless.

IMO move Grayling, Horton and Cash and get new people in who are actually interested in finding a solution.

Nobody is blameless here, and it's the paying Customer who are having their lives ruined.

The way grayling picked up the baton without skipping a beat makes me wonder who's really behind it. Someone at the DfT? How can we have a total overhaul of government and still nothing change?

At least people are starting to ask questions now and the mainstream media are not only reporting gtr/dafts side of this.

The truth isn't far away.

Any chance the drivers were sat twiddling their thumbs in the depot due to Southern Management sabotaging their own services to make it look like the unions? This claim has been hitting the new more & more lately.

If so, you have played right into their hands.

I don't think you can blame the PR departments for that. The press, with the exception of the Mirror, are not going to print anything even vaguely pro-union. The press officers could be sending press releases tatooed on the bodies of semi-naked women and they'd still be ignored

Starts well, then gets a little lost and confused, then comes back to some sense.

Also, his argument is equally misleading in points. For example, he states that the new OBS role will not be trained to the same level of track safety as a guard, and yet Southern have said the following in a letter to Mick Cash:

"Southern guarantees that traditional conductors will retain current competence and will guarantee that the second member of on board employees will be trained to a ‘safety competent’ level including track safety training, train evacuation, traction competence and full commercial route knowledge (excluding train dispatch)."

They key here is for Southern to guarantee that there will be an OBS on every service, just as there is a guard. If they are genuinely interested in keeping the second member of staff focused on passenger service then they should have no problem guaranteeing this.

However, we all know that it is the DFT calling the shots and not Southern.

Grayling says the Government will consider banning strikes on the railways, imo this has been the Government agenda since the start of the present industrial action.

I wonder what Labour think of this situation. Do we even have an opposition government?

I voted conservative and am beginning to WISH we had some form of competent opposition.
