In my RAF days in the '80s, my job was in air defence, and part of the job was tracking and intercepting the Ruskies. We would count it a quiet week if we hadn't intercepted Russian Bombers on 4 or 5 occasions. It was not unusual to have 3 or 4 A NIGHT. It should be pointed out, we send our own planes the other way as well!

Any idiot saying the Russians need a slap for being so cheeky as to fly in international airspace.

Would you keep your planes on the ground until they were in our airspace?
I didn't say the RAF shouldn't go up there and keep an eye on the bombers, but the whole thing is just a non-story. The Russians are allowed to fly there, we're allowed to go and keep an eye on them, everything's fine, nothing to see here.
