I'm pleased we're moving to "Stand or Fall" as "to win the cup" has been annoying me for years - it was definitely "and we'll win the cup" back in the day (70s/80s) but of course we no longer aspire to Going Up at least for the time being!

Was always going up to win the cup, as a kid of 8 or 9 at Woodside Road, (Worthing), and the Goldstone a few years later.
It did occur to me at the time that it made no sense, but who was I to argue:shrug::shrug:

What an unusual end to the season. I wonder how many times the last two games have been against the same opposition?

That was such an unusual question, I wanted to look it up.

That set of fixtures in the picture was from the Reserve League, but looking at the first team (from when we joined the Football League and EXCLUDING the War years):

1920/21 - last two games against Northampton Town (0-1 away and 3-2 at home)
1921/22 - Millwall (0-2 away and 0-1 at home)
1971/72 - Rochdale (2-1 away and 1-1 home)

1982/83 - Manchester United - Cup Final & Replay
2012/13 - Crystal Palace - Play-offs
2013/14 - Derby County - Play-offs
2015/16 - Sheffield Wednesday - Play-offs

In 57/58, two of the last three were against Watford (1-0 away and 6-0 at home to clinch promotion)
In 64/65, two of the last three were against Darlington (0-2 away and 3-1 at home to clinch promotion)

That's 15 minutes of my life I won't get back.

Great stuff. That's what I like about sport - such a great range of stats out there to be explored!

Thanks.

'Win the Cup' version for me with a descant on the final 'Sussex by the Sea'. I can't remember the other words and feel silly reading them off the screen.
