Terrible crime. Seems to be pretty much exclusively Blacks and Asian gangs doing this and Black and Asian young men as the victims. Just one reason I would never want to live in London. Too many undesirable gang thugs.

Depends where in London you live. I live in London and other than seeing the same media reports you do I'm completely unaware of any gang related activities.

Do you ever go out?
Your location is down as Lewisham? My wife was born in Greenwich, Kids born in Lewisham hospital. Catford visits every week along with Eltham and Lee.
She just laughed out loud when I read her your statement.

Can't be acid attacks if it is caustic soda (NaOH). Anyway it comes from the same place as FGM, rape, child brides and honour killings which is running rampant through certain communities in the UK. How many FGM convictions again.

Its just such a good point. Its all about political will and our weedy, self seeking politicians don't have it. if only they could be as exercised about the issues you highlight as they are in protecting themselves and their parties from the current sex scandals sweeping Westminster.

Its always somebody elses son, daughter etc, our politicians are not to be trusted!

Crime, especially knife crime has increased massively, cuts to the police force and much of their time taken up with terrorism has opened the door for this type of crime.
The Police are doing their best but when they are caught the sentences are often too soft, the prisons are full and are out of control.
May and Rudd are very quick when crime is down to stand up and tell us that the cuts to The Police are working and there are more cuts to come but when the opposite is true they retreat back into their mansions and do nothing.
The Met Police have got to find I think another £600,000 in cuts.
Cressida Dick had almost refused to do it.

Yes, live in Lewisham. Play football in Catford, drink in Greenwich and New Cross. Maybe I'm just walking around with my eyes closed but I'm really not aware of any gang activity and have never felt unsafe at any time of night.

Yeah, 'certain' communities.

Ah, the same Cressida Dick who presided over the operation when a young Brazilian man was held down by three armed policemen and executed. The same Cressida Dick who received no reprimand, neither the officers responsible, but was duly promoted to become head of the Met. Pity our soldiers in Iraq and Afghan were treated completely opposite to this. Cresside Dick should keep her head down, she's truly got blood on her hands!

If you can live in a rough part of London like Lewisham and socialise in other rough parts of London like catford and feel safe, hats off to you. I wouldn't want to walk around those parts of London in the day let alone at night.

I'm not knocking anyone that lives in those areas just I wouldn't fancy it.

if convicted beyond doubt of an acid attack ....the right hand of the perpetrator should be removed and a large A tattooed in the centre of their forehead......a neanderthal crime needs a fitting punishment.

you poor sod  i agree though, on the main streets, thoroughfares and public places there's not to fuss over, hundreds of thousands of people just going about their business. the estates would be best avoided though.

This still rankles me.

Suspected terrorist leaves a building into quiet residential streets. Anti-terrorist police follow him from the building, through the streets, into the Underground station, down onto the platform, wait until he boards a train....and then blow his brains out! Putting numerous members of the public at risk. Why not take him down as soon as he left the building if the police thought he was a suicide bomber.

Made no sense then....and it still doesn't now.

Yet another Establishment cover up.

Of course, totally, out of control coppers with weapons on the streets of London. As soldier, if anyone let a round off without permission it was classed as a negligent discharge and for whoever did it be it an officer or soldier it was a chargeable offence. Apparently the three coppers all ACCIDENTLY fired their weapons, too coincidental to be true and not a single charge against any of them. Total cover up, total ametuers running around the streets of London. Apparently the Incident Controller, our whining Cressida, lost communications with the chasing team, how convenient.

I have to wonder if things have changed since then?

I'm guessing you don't live in Croydon, Southwark, Lewisham, Lambeth, Merton or Wandsworth then?

You can add my old borough, Greenwich, to that list. Thankfully they saw sense and pulled Thamesmead down once it became a drug dealers paradise. I watched that estate being built and the original residents were so proud to live there. Then the local authority decided to (as they always seemed to) move problem families in hoping that the good would educate the bad. It became a sink estate very quickly with warrens underneath where garages were becoming no-go areas. Similarly Woolwich is not a nice place anymore.

I live in Lewisham, have done for the last 4 1/2 years. I’m sure there are gangs around and if you live on an estate where they operate it must be shit but I don’t see anything or ever feel unsafe.

The good thing is the gangs largely pick on each other, it's rare that innocents get caught in the cross-fire, so to speak.
