Went up from Leicester (Uni), changing trains at Sheffield. Was forced to walk to the local station after the match (where the seagulls special was) instead of the intercity one.Got a connection to the main station and was walking across the concourse when 5 Geordie skinheads surrounded me. One looked at my ticket and said "He's one". I sprinted as one of them tried to hook my foot and get me down for a kicking. I made the train unscathed and had a 3 hour stop off at Sheffield Uni bar for a a few beers and MOTD before boarding the last rain to Leicester. Quite a day.

Is correct as was the fact that Newcastle fans wanted us to win as well, to stop their arch enemies going up. Most impresive was the Geordies ovation given to us at the end and how long they stayed behind to cheer their own team despite only having a mediocre season.
Remember that well, really inpressed me . Also years later found a group of geordies supporting the Albion when we were away at Harlepool I asked why , they said it all atarted in 1979.. Newcastle fist but Brighton their second favourites.
So was there in 1979 and will return this Saturday although last time close to the action this time closer to the clouds up on the 7th floor.

Anyone got that pic of Mullery and Bamber walking through the train with champagne on the way back, greeting the fans? That must have been amazing.

Lived in Suffolk at that time. So drove to Peterborough to get train. Told that due to football trains there was nothing north for a couple of hours. Lo and behold a train full of Albion arrived and on we got. Still think that was the best ever performance by the Albion. To trounce Newcastle by half time, well could not believe it. The journey home to P,born was great. Drinks all round and free. As I had to drive 70 miles from P,boroI had to decline but still enjoyed the atmosphere.

I was on a similar coach, run by my work colleague Jim Dixon, picked us up in Burgess Hill after spending evening in The Potters Arms...Having a kick about outside the Spanish City, with about 50 aside... Ah, memories!

Saw off all my mates the night before as they made their way to the coaches. Up Saturday morning and Gatwick airport for the short flight up. Drinking on plane. Coach to ground and on the Newcastle Amber which was the draught beer. Happy. Promoted at half time it was back to the bar. Missed most of the second half but I recall sitting in the gangway rather than a seat. Match ends and coach back to the airport and the bar. More fizzy on the plane and picked up at Gatwick for home. Down pub with programme to prove I was there. Then to Brighton station to see in the train. I finally fell over almost unconsious at this point.

Was there with my mum and dad when I was 10 years old. Went on a private coach organised by a family friend who worked for Southdown. Left Worthing at 11pm, parked up in Durham around 5am. Breakfast in the Wimpy - still remember the Wimpy Baconburger Grill. Long but happy drive back after the game.

Was anyone on the old Ron's Coaches of Ashington coach that had all it's windows smashed in on the way home as it was too slow to avoid some locals lobbing bricks at the coaches on their way out of Toon?

Can't see why there is a roll call for this game and not the dire, Wednesday night 0-0 in 1991 that I also had the pleasure of attending https://youtu.be/BJ5BJLi3Veg

Was on the train with the players on the way back. All pissed up. lawrenson leaning against the bar with his arm in plaster. The club were selling celebration 'shields'. Got mine signed by all the players whilst they could still hold a pen. Scenes at Brighton station were unreal. Each player getting carried off the train. Think the players went as far as a Casino on Queen Street and stayed there all night.
