[Albion] Palace fans: questions they should ask themselves...

A quick trawl around BBS and Holmesdale fan forums shows that a certain number of NigeLLLLLLs are arguing that their Ultras were out-of-order for rushing the turn-styles, injuring stewards and getting their own fans locked-out, and for the pyrotechnics, but a very large proportion are saying it's all down to the police and BHAFC for getting EVERYTHING wrong.

Some points I agree with; this should have been a lunch-time weekend match, and some of those police drafted in are very heavy handed. But you Palace fans reading this have to ask yourselves:

+ why was a pack of masked youth scurrying around town scaring the housewives and pensioners from lunchtime onwards, but they only made it to the ground after KO?

+ why are they blaming the search routines for not finding the fireworks when obviously those who steamed-in avoided being searched?

+ why do the Palace fans complain about being kettled and being marched the long way up to the station when they insist on mobbing-up in the West Street pubs knowing full-well that the police will contain and escort them. Or do they like it because they can feel big in the perfect safety of that police escort?

+ why not just go to the AMEX in plenty of time, have a drink there and forget all the stupid posturing? I'm sure then that the Police wouldn't get so heavy handed and go so over-the-top after the match.

Well it's up to them, but if a large percentage of NigeLLLLLLs continue to act like stupid children making out that they are "invading" Brighton then all of them are going to get treated badly.

p.s. I don't know why there are multiple LLLLs on Nigel - I can't edit them out.

BHAFC got it wrong in what way- by expecting adult Crystal Palace supporters to act like adults? What was the ratio of BHA stewards to CP stewards at the South Stand entrance for away fans? To my mind there are no others to blame for this trouble than Crystal Palace supporters. Trying to shift the blame fits right with that awful club.

Well, the whole experience just puts a cap on it for me. I've been to a lot of games, but never had to put up with abuse and intimidation like it. Only now am I able to put virtual pen to paper. A horrible experience for me and my fellow friends/fans. Surely a ban on away fans for these games now. Or a reciprocal agreement. We should start taking no tickets for smelhurst
May sound extreme but I, for one, will not miss being called a 'speccie tw×t' repeatedly. Enough is enough.

Not the real one
Can we move on from this now, Liverpool tomorrow! Whilst a very worthwhile debate after Tuesday, there are multiple threads on it. I think we need to forget about those dirtbags up the road.

Forgotten most of Tuesday night already.

Crap game but we took a point and some silly non-sense before and after. To be fair, the behaviour of their own is for them to debate and sort out.

Moving on - Liverpool next up!

Yes let's, you never know but an entertaining football game may be on show, and we can all concentrate on the pitch rather than worrying about what is going on in the stands. And the only issue after the game is whether to stay for a pint or two, or go straight home/into town

Sorry, I should have made the thread title more clear so that you didn't have to read it...

Palace logic: It's THE POLICE'S fault that they LET us FORCE into the ground without tickets, BEAT UP stewards and PIE OFF fellow Palace fans who'd gone to the effort of buying tickets. It's BRIGHTON'S fault that the injured stewards were so LAX in their searching that we HID explosives and later set them off, BURNING other fans. Essentially, because we COULD act like KNOBHEADS, we should have been STOPPED from doing so (without any kettling, supervision or searches), and we're therefore ABSOLVED of any blame for said KNOBHEADERY.

Wider football (and general) society logic: Palace are a shameless, festering gimp-pile.

Couldn't agree more. The only way to stop the events of Tuesday night escalating further in the future would be to instigate an away fan ban for a few seasons.

In my opinion, the rise of social media has a big part to play in events. Before Facebook, Twitter and online forums, the expression of hatred between supporters of both sides was limited to maybe a couple of weeks either side of both fixtures in the season and at that, mainly paper talk. Now it's a constant all year round fuelled by keyboard warriors and worryingly, becoming more than just banter. Someone is going to get seriously hurt or, God forbid, killed if dramatic action isn't taken NOW (and I don't mean to belittle the injuries suffered by the two stewards who were trying to do their jobs).

I don't remember anything like that the last time we played them at the Goldstone, or the matches at Withdean. Even the previous games at the Amex didn't endure that level of intimidation. I was at the 0-5 at Sellhurst and the 1-0 and on both occasions the atmosphere did not feel of intimidation (even when corralled by the Police an hour after the 0-5).

And yes, I'm another Speccy T**t who's seriously considering not bothering to use his ST next time round.

There are idiots on both sides, but the HF have taken things to new depths. If everyone thinks the Policing was bad on Tuesday, what's it going to be like in the future?

Sad to say that I won’t be making any effort to go the game at Selhurst, for the first time since I started following the Albion. Going to the football should be a good day out, Tuesday put me in mind of the games in the 70’s, bloody hated everything about it and I had really been looking forward to it ( with dread if we lost).
