Been to Sydney, thought it was amazing at the time.

Saw London last year and thought it was surprising impressive. Thought the same this year so voted for the capital.

Just watched a short clip of this years Sydney, still incredible. And as my tax money doesn't pay for it, it wins if I could re-vote.

You do really need all the clips world-wide for a fair poll.

Hasn't Dubai tried to break a world record for their display this year

The Palm Jumeirah and The World Islands in Dubai will play host to an enormous display of fireworks that will attempt the set off more than 400,000 fireworks across 100km of shoreline, in just six minutes. If organizers succeed with their planned display it will set a new Guinness World Record.

Dubai is also home to the world's tallest building, and it will be hosting a New Year's Eve Gala that will provide premium seats to the potentially record breaking display.

The fireworks display will also feature an amazing laser etching of an aerial countdown to New Year 2014. Other special features will include a flying falcon and a special "sunrise" at midnight – all created with special effects with seemingly no expense spared.

In a statement, Deira and Bur Dubai traffic departments have insisted that they will deploy more than 150 traffic police officers and personnel on main roads around the celebration areas. Authorities have stated that they will not tolerate any violations or traffic obstructions, and will clamp down severely against any violators to the event.

The New Year's celebrations and the potentially World Record breaking fireworks display will all be made available to millions of viewers to watch around the globe. To watch the celebration online through free live stream by click here.

Hasn't Dubai got something like 30 miles of fireworks in their New Years celebrations, i'd imagine that will be the most spectacular

thinking about it, bet they planned for months and months for that, spending every day to get the display and planning it right. And it's over in 6 minutes.

Bit like my love life (first joke of 2014)

I particularly liked the shower of golden rain falling from the Harbour Bridge in Sydney. London was very well done, and I'm as patriotic as the next person, but if I'm being completely objective, the Aussie show was just slightly more impressive IMO. Dubai was good too, but just a little run-of-the-mill, despite the record-breaking number of fireworks. It's not so much quantity but quality that counts in my book.

Sydney benefits from having a better venue than London. The Harbour, with the bridge gives so much scope for displays. It's a bit of a shame they tend to do the same sort of thing every year though. London's getting a bit tired with the wheel too - Tower Bridge would be my stage of choice but the viewing area is more limited.
