It's the way forward my friend. Even CAMRA realise that. Some prefer keg. Some prefer cask. No reason why we can't all get along in the pursuit of great beer

I totally agree. As an aside I used to hate real ale but craft has proved a gateway into cask beers for me. Alles gut!

Everyone I know in the craft community actively seeks out new and different beers. It's part of the interest. There might be dozens of pubs with a few craft pumps or cans but there are only a small number of Brighton pubs with a decent and regular turn over of craft beers. Tap takeovers are regular and popular events which totally and exactly serve our needs. To say this is marketing bollocks and not needed because The Nags Head has a tap of Punk is ignorant. This festival seems a welcome addition to the Brighton scene.
If you're not streetwise enough to know which Brighton pubs are good for Craft beer then it's great

I know which pubs are the best for Craft in Brighton and none of them are part of the Tap Takeover. But that's not the point. I'll be visiting the Takeover pubs to try new beers like I did last time. It's about breweries, I'm really looking forward to some more Cloudwater & Fourpure beers.

Well, all of the pubs on the list for starters (although there is a shorter queue on non wristband days...)

In addition All the Indigo Pubs have a great selection (Hare and Hounds, Eagle, the George), The Albert, Craft, Evening Star, Beer Dispensary to name but a few. All pretty well known, the East Street Tap is the best newcomer on the scene but it's on the wristband list already

And the Lewes Camra beer festival had kegs last year for the first time. It's a matter of time until kegs are generally available at their events IMHO.

It did not; I know, I paid for all the beer that was supplied.

SBB&CF at the Racecourse will also have free Shuttle buses from Brighton Station to the Racecourse and back on the Thursday before and after the session; the Friday before and after both sessions and the Saturday before the session.

Glastonwick is a great festival but around three times as far from the nearest railway station with no public transport at all, only the shuttle bus.

The Indigo pubs are fine, but you know pretty much what they'll have on tap. They don't have regularly changing and exciting stock which is my point. And for the record I really don't like East Street Tap. Staff seem a bit clueless about craft and it was full of shouting townies when I was in there. I will add Seven Stars; I've had some nice Beavertown beers and BBQ in there.

Brighton Bier Dispensary, Craft Beer Co, The Albert, The Evening Star and Brewdog are my go-tos.

This is the BBD sister pub right? Great news it's opening so soon. That Bison Arms pub should open this year as well.

I'll report back. I've bought me and Mrs B a couple of early bird tix for a tenner each. If I understand it right, each wristband gets you £15 worth of beer, so we should already be up on the deal....

Wristband gives you 4 half pints of beer from Tap takeover brewers worth £15, plus 20% off any Tap Takeover beers you buy over the weekend.

Not into craft beer myself, but 2 pints is worth £15 ?

I've never paid quite that much for a pint.

I still find it a shock to pay more than £3 for a pint in a pub (or £4.40 for a pint of Harveys at the Amex), but is anything worth the retail price? Depends. In terms of Craft Beer you're paying for someone's time and effort in creating a small business and a lovingly crafted brew. If you just want to enjoy one or two or three pints of really tasty beer then it's probably a price worth paying. If you want to sit at home drinking mass produced beer by a multi-national and you're not prepared to pay more than a quid a bottle or a can, then you might have a different perspective.

Fair enough, I'm not a big beer drinker at all, and even the odd pint I have in the city is usually about a fiver, so £15 for a couple of pints seems a lot. I'd happily pay that for a bottle of red to quaff at home though....

I've never paid quite that much for a pint.

My local had a festival on this weekend and had Moor Benny Havens whiskey barrel aged Barley Wine and Hawkshead Tonka. Both £4.50 a half. In fact the majority of keg beers seem to be a lot more expensive than their cask alternative.

I still find it a shock to pay more than £3 for a pint in a pub

You need to tell me where you drink. Whetherspoon's/clubs aside it was years ago that I paid < £3 a pint.

Me too. That's my point. My heavy socialising days were all in the last century. Going to a pub is more of an event for me these days - so I am always shocked at how expensive it is.

That's also probably why I'd prioritise a pub with a nice vibe, a good selection of ales, knowledgeable staff etc. over a Weatherspoons or whatever. So I'm even more shocked at the prices!

I see your wicked plan - I’m a junglist.

I think Indigo are also doing / about to do a 'renovation' of the William IV at the top of Bond Street so that will be another old school pub gone- which may or may not be a good thing depending on what you like!
