I don’t think we can hold the entire club and its supporters to account for this. This is about Rodriguez. WBA have to stand by him at this stage. However, how they react when he is handed his ban, that is when we should judge them.

I would like to think that WBA will then take the right course of action.

As for Pardew, he could take a leaf out of Chris’s stoic book.

I would expect a club to say the player protests his innocence it is clearly a sensitive matter and we will not make further comment until the process is concluded.

Backing their player is sending out the wrong message at this stage

if they didn't have enoth evidence then they wouldn't have charged him, as they would have gone through a panel to get to the bottom of it

I don't understand how players who are found guilty are not sacked for Gross Misconduct. This would certainly apply at my company. Different rules for footballers? (appreciate it's still alleged only in this case).

No, I agree with you there that the club management and leadership have really stuck their neck out. I’m referring to the club in its entirety I.e. supporters and all.

We’ve had our own issues in the past as a club and been very circumspect yet fair in the handling.

I'd imagine they must have some fairly conclusive evidence to charge him? Maybe some footage from an unseen angle as there is a million cameras around these days. I for one support Bong. If Rodriguez didn't want to get caught up in a mess then he should have activated his brain and never got involved to begin with

Why would a football club sack, ie release on a free, a highly valuable asset?

No organisation are compelled to sack someone, they’ll do so if it makes sense for them to do so. It doesn’t make sense for a Premier League football club to sack a player worth, at a guess, £20m.

Some would, true enough, but I wouldn't.

A lot of people who aren't particularly racist might resort to a comment in the spur of the moment that they regret. Particularly if the sort of insult they say has been common in their life. It's possible he said it without really thinking it through. I could believe players associated with our club could have said something like that at some point. It's a bad thing to say, and deserves punishment, but also deserves forgiveness (if sought). IMO, a worse crime would be to make such an accusation up. There's no way I could imagine Bong made this up, it would be a lot harder for me to forgive.

Without knowing what evidence there is available, I think it's too early to pass comment on the player or WBA. The thing that leans me towards thinking there must be something to this is Hughton's comments at the time, which clearly suggest he strongly believes it to be fact. I feel he's too clever/measured a bloke to make an unqualified statement like that if there was a chance it could be wrong/a misunderstanding.

We'll see.

Twitter is certainly bringing a lot of idiots out of the woodwork. The only conclusion to draw is that football still attracts a lot of racists and both football and society has a long way to go

Intrigued that when ostensibly it's one person's word against another they have actually charged Rodriguez.

My concern is the venom being directed against Bong regardless of the outcome of this charge. He is not only a great player but also ,from a personal point of view, a very decent person , having met him on a few occasions.
