I'm going to resume training with the goal of winning a parkrun on the 11th November, my next parkrun I intend to be racing will be September 23rd, the intention for that one being to break my 18:50 PB but I'll be aiming to run my own pace rather than racing others.

Just avoid Perth!

I might be able to help you move somewhere in a couple of weeks.....Down the table!.....I'll be in Folkestone and aiming at your SB on a flat tarmac course with 2 laps but with wide turning points. http://www.parkrun.org.uk/folkestone/course/

Everyone above you and, I'm sure you as well, are safe for this year but I'll give it a go. 6:59 mile pace needed.

Hmm, well I'm back at Hove Park on Saturday and buoyed by my fastest time since February – I'll try and set you a revised target

On tired legs?! What's your best? Where did you run the 17:59? Outstanding pace!

I managed a 20:10 on the Prom, I was feeling the effects of wine and cider and couldn't open up any more than I did. Ankle feels better but not resolved so I'm debating whether I step out for some milage today or not.

That's s great time on any kind of legs. What's your pb? You could well be the quickest on here.

I've verified the run in Perth. U-14 well done Capricorn and will update the table. Mo's out and Curious Orange is pushed into second place. Garry Nelson's teacher loses his coveted AG position. My King of PB's 17: 45 is under threat. If Capricorn goes under 17:45 we may have ask for proof of being an Albion fan! but happy to move curious and GNT down a notch. I'll also adjust The Complete Badger s time and Seaford by the sea .

Cheers guys. Yeah run was at Calleya parkrun in Perth. My best 5K time so far is 17:23 at Geographe Bay parkrun in June. I should hopefully be knocking on the door of sub 17 in the near future, once my legs start to get better! I might be misunderstanding, but I'm definitely not under 14 years old if that's what the U-14 means above! :lolol:

I ran a 18:07 parkrun earlier on in the year wearing a Brighton shirt and have photo evidence if necessary :lolol::lolol:

My apologies. Haven't been to Perth since 1981 long before Parkrun. I plumped for the city/River Swan Parkrun that had an U-14 finishing in 17:59. Have now found you at Calleya where you got first place and put those Aussies in their place. Unfortunately you'll move seriously down the NSC Age Grade placing so old git Garry Nelson's teacher will be reinstated and my PB position will be pushed down by yours.
I clicked your Strava link from the results and saw your Brighton shirt and a pint of Guinness. You pass all entry requirements.

Thanks! Next time my PB changes I am going to attempt a table edit of my own again - I promise. I just don't think I'm quite over the nightmares from the absolute mess I created when I tried to move myself up a line a few weeks ago.

When you move up the table use a PC, cut your info and paste in new position, edit the times. Remove quote info at top and bottom.

For your 10k I think you should adopt my favoured tactic. Discipline the first 5k so you're well off the pace around 25-24 minutes. At the halfway point you should be in a position to go through the gears towards your 5k pace edging 22 minutes.
Constantly think of relaxing for the first half and hanging back and when pushing the second half constantly think of reserving energy for that last half mile sprint. You should get somewhere between 46-48 minutes and the joy of overtaking scores of people will spur you on.

When you've got the first one out the way you can work out how to go faster in the future. For most on here it's the cruelest race distance, a true killer. Enjoy it!

Bollocks. Eyeballs out first mile, 2 miles feeling sick and shuffling, 2 miles attempting eyeballs out, 1 mile trying to hang on. [emoji106][emoji106]

I think you're right and this is the sensible advice. My only problem is that I find it quite hard to 'go through the gears'. Regardless of distance, I seem to run my fastest KMs at the start and slowly lose it. I am going to try and follow your approach though and see where it gets me, mainly because I haven't got a chance of keeping my Parkrun pace going over 10k.

I've joined the Strava group too, although I haven't got a clue who anyone is!

This 10k advice from knocky1 definitely seems right to me - I've got a similar 5k time to you (somewhere between 22:00 and 22:20 on most parkruns these days), and my best recent 10k (47:19) was when I paced the first 5-6k at a slower than parkrun pace, and picked it up with negative splits in the last third of the race. When I ran the BM 10k back in April however, I went off much too fast, and did a 22:30 for the first 5k, convinced myself that I was on for a PB, and it all fell apart in the last mile and I ended up, despite the fast (for me) start, blowing it and coming in just over 51 minutes (my worst ever 10k).

I'm contemplating 13 the Hard Way which is an off road half around Mid-Sussex. I think it starts in Clayton and is on the next BH weekend.

I've just signed up for this. Swerve parkrun for a week and get it done, big nuts

Know the route very well as it's local to me and I'm always training up there, so there is no chance of me racing it [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Worth having a recce of the 'Tank Tracks' (near the start) before the day if you can, just so you're prepared.

These have just been mentioned to me and I had a look at the route. I've not run that bit of the SDW, so it will be all new to me! Good idea about checking it out before – I'll try and get up there...
