True - We'll never know. We struggled in the heat against Nigeria in the last group game as well though and it was still Brazil in the semi if we went through the other way though as FIFA fixed the draw to keep Japan and Korea apart until the final.
Yes, but that would have been an evening game, and we'd have stood a decent chance.

We didn't have a shot on target in the 2nd half Brazil if I recall
Not sure we touched the ball.
having got to the pub for before 7am what a Friday that would have been had we won.................
It was my birthday :(

Peter Ustinov did indeed play fictional Belgian detective Poirot, you picture shows fellow Poirot actor David Suchet.

Written by Agatha Christie, whereas famous Belgian, Georges Simenon, wrote about Maigret.

Tonight's game shows the folly of leaving Dunky at home. To finish second and get the easier run, England need a draw and a couple of bookings. Who would be better to rely on to come in and get himself a strategic yellow with five minutes to go?

He could really seal it with a trademark own goal.

Just think - What could Ireland have done had they beaten Germany in the group like they should have done, Roy Keane or not................................

Oirland are just there for the craic, they'd have bombed out soon enough.

He was referring to The FA's attitude in the 1930s when we didn't compete in it and his one line on 'supporting' Belgium before the world cup started was merely to show how far his expectations have fallen on England, from the days when we were going to win the world cup, to our our bad luck in tournaments that shows we cursed to the whats the point of even turning up etc.

His blog on England in the world cup, written last Monday before the Tunisia game, is here in full, rather The Sun newspapers spun article on it today. The reality is quite different - https://www.richardcorbett.org.uk/e...another-episode-in-a-lifetime-of-heartbreaks/

Fairy snuff, but I still think boycott is a bit of an unfair description of 'can't be arsed to travel to Uruguay',or 'enter a competition glorifying FIFA and Mussolini'.:)
Might believe Corbett if he's in the pub dressed like a full-kit w***er!:lolol:

Hadn't realised that we have not lost to Belgium for 82 years and that is the only time in 21 meetings.

Nothing can go wrong.....go wrong.....go wrong.......go wrong.

We both qualify in any case. Save the worrying for next week.

I've read this tournament described as being rather like a doomed holiday romance for Engand, and I agree.

Whatever happens tonight and next week, we should just enjoy it while it lasts, for what it is, while we still can. Its a fun, frivolous time to be had frolicking in the sunshine, with all kinds of fanciful thoughts, wild ideas and possibilities of a lasting love spinning in our heads. But soon it will all be over. Hopes and dreams will be dashed, reality will arrive in a taxi like an unwelcome house guest, and we will be whisked away, back to the chill winds and grey skies of normal life, popping the idyllic bubble we've existed in for those blissful few weeks.

But darling, we will always have Panama.
