On NSC for over two decades...
I'm targeting your (current!) second place in the 5k table Curious Orange! Saturday is the day. The way I see it - I'm either going to take both yourself and big nuts, or neither. We shall see what occurs, but I won't be able to Strava upload until sunday as I'm staying in Portsmouth this weekend. I'm throwing the idea around of cycling it from Hove, the late kick off on sunday gives me the option. No trains from that way, so it's either a bus, or bike. Options!

Go for it, just keep in mind you're only trying to run faster than a middle-aged man (that's me, not big nuts) and you should do it easily!

:p

That is it, a 20 minute lunch run and now I'm done until the Windsor Half on Sunday. I even managed to resist my natural urges and kept the pace about a minute slower than my anticipated race pace. Sunday is going to be hectic what with that and the football!

Good luck to everyone doing Barns Green, lovely race. Anyone going for a gold finishers medal this year?

Ooh - I'm doing Windsor on Sunday as well. First time - looking forward to it but not expecting a particulalrly great time. I'll be the one (of a couple maybe) in a yellow Orpington Road Runners top.

Afternoon all. I dont think this has been posted before (but probably has and I missed it). The site lists all park runs and the elevation

https://jegmar.com/fastest-races/parkrun/

According to this Haywards Heath (Clair on this list) is the 439/458 hilliest! Hove Prom is 15/450. Can Ninja Elephant build these stats into his spreadsheet?????

One of my nearest runs is Lullingstone - just one place below Bevendean Down at 452. Hoping it will get me ready for Beachy Head (although it's a bit later now!).

There's now (since 2016) a 10k at BG as well as the half marathon. I'm planning to do the former. Think it will be 'undulating' as is the HM.

Bloody Worthing!
I'm doing the same. Had signed up for the half, but have run very little in the past month due to foot injury, so have switched to the 10k. Looking forward to it.

Might get the chance to say 'hi'...............I'll be wearing a blue top (not an Albion one I'm afraid) and probably black leggings. I'm not tall (!) and have a beard. I'm training for a marathon in November and my schedule is screaming out for a half marathon - but I just fancy trying a 10K. I'll do a parkrun on Saturday so assuming I come through that unscathed, I'll be there! (Sorry to hear about the foot.)

Worthing Parkrun for me this morning. After focusing on my HM attempt and then the Littlehampton 10k this was the first time I've run at maximum pace at Parkrun for about six weeks and I got a new PB of 21:34. That's 31 seconds off my previous PB so very happy with that. It also, for possibly the first time ever, means I get to move up places on the NSC table!

Well done I say, through gritted teeth, as you push me towards the relegation places.
Based on your run I'll be very happy to be 2" behind you at the Bevendean Parkrun Challenge on 22 October on my current form.

Just back from walking up 3 X 3,000'+ peaks in Wales. Carneddau Daffyd, Carneddau Llewelyn and Snowdon from the Watkins Path. Achilles no problem so hope to be back in proper running mode in 2018.

I wouldn't try to read too much into it, my heart rate is in that top zone for pretty much of the time when I'm racing too - just shows you're putting the effort in!

Not that I'm an expert in these things, but I have to seriously put the brakes on my pace in order to stay in the lower zones...

One of you has training discipline.:lolol:

Cheers. I'll keep an eye out for you - I'm skinny, not tall, grey hear, beard, specs. Not sure what I'll be wearing yet.

I think I will give Lullingstone a miss having looked at the course, but I might make a switch from Orpington to Bromley for my attempt at a PB.

Assuming this sort of tactic is going to pass the adjudicator.

I'll be at Barns Green too this weekend but running the half marathon.

For the first time I ran cycle route 20 Tuesday which is fairly close to my address. Strange running adjacent to motorways but could be a good future route as clear and not too hilly. There is also a turning for the South Downs Way so plenty to explore North of Brighton which I haven't tended to do much. I ran to Pyecombe and back which got me up to 8 miles from mine. The last two miles were at 6:31 average pace and the last 4 of the miles 6:39 pace so decent form for a practice run.

SDW either side of Pyecombe (past the golf club East, through the village and over Wolstenbury West) is ace........absolutely love it up there.

Have you tried Beckenham yet? The course is just as quick as Bromley but it is much quieter. Only gets about 150 compared to the 600odd that Bromley tends to get now. Unless you are right at the front at Bromley you can easily get boxed in and lose 30 seconds by the first corner.

I will be there as well, but am stupidly doing the HM. I will probably be wearing a blue hoody before the start if its cold, buts it forecast to be quite warm! Otherwise I will probably we wearing my purple martlets running top and black Albion shorts.

I had a look at the course profile, and there is a lot more elevation gain at Windsor than at Barns Green - Mrs Orange regularly runs in the area and has been telling me its hilly for a while... think I believe her now! I think I'll be doing well to get near 1:30 on Saturday - I'll be the chap saying hi to random Orpington Road Runners at the start.

Good luck!

Cheers! I definitely expect the course to be "undulating" and will be looking at about 1:50 so I expect you'll be long gone... The one positive I can see is the first mile is a stready climb which means the last mile is downhill all the way to the finish!
