Scottish and Northern Irish notes are not legal tender in England and Wales , according to the Bank Of England FAQs. Retailers who take them as payment are agreeing to a transaction settlement. The major reason that they are refused goes back to a period when a lot of counterfeit Scottish notes were in circulation and it was easier to pass them off in London and the South than say Glasgow or Edinburgh. By the way if you get any "Travellers" asking to pay with a Scottish £100 note it is a scam , that denomination doesn't exist.

The £100 note does exist , had. Plenty of them in my wallet when living up there

I'll be speaking to my manager tomorrow as we were briefed before Christmas not to accept them on the basis they weren't genuine. A work around could be to tell customers they are a promissary note and only legal tender in Scotland.

We always had trouble spending Sottish notes of any denomination when we came back south. Big stores were ok but smaller shops often refused them.

Why? ..... SNP wanted to go all Euro until they realised a) the pre-reqs for joining the Eurozone were too difficult for Scotland to meet in the medium term, and b) The Euro has shown itself to be very unstable, and therefore a vote loser.

No that's why they are letting 16 year old kids vote. This whole process is a joke. It's beyond disgusting. I understand fully jock frustrations about what they perceive as Westminster policies that negatively impact them but this is basically voting for an ethnically pure state. It's vile divisive and fuelled by idiotic nationalism. I think it's appalling that it's even on the table.

Let them keep the pound , if it all goes tits up we can create currency exchange rates making the Scottish £ as worthy as what the Americans think of the Canadian $

They should get a per capita percentage of the oil, and have the Scottish Pound, which will be independent from the UK pound. The good thing about them having the vote, is they have to go, or stay and stop ****ing whining.

The thing is, this situation is the consequence of arrogance by labour politicians who thought that they could create a Scottish parliamentary system that would make it difficult for any single party (with the exception of labour) to gain overall control.

The fact that they spectacularly mismanaged national and Scottish affairs allowed the SNP to fill the political vacuum they left. I suspect many Scots who voted SNP were not seeking independence but were attracted by the SNPs socialist messages, however this referendum is the unintended quid pro quo.

Remember the people in charge of the labour party actually believed when they were in control that they had created a new economic cycle which meant no more boom and bust............it is ironic that with the economy on the turn their ultimate act of political vandalism could be the end of a 300 year old union.

Incidentally I agree with the point about 16 year olds, but this is the future (see clause 58).
