from the wires:

Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher's condition has worsened this evening.

It is being reported that Schumacher has suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage.

A statement is expected by Formula 1 at some point this evening.

Tonight, respected local newspaper Dauphine Libere reported that the German's life was in danger.

A report filed at 7.20pm read: 'The state of health of the veteran driver has worsened and his condition is considered life-threatening, according to our information'.

The Dauphine is one of the most respected papers in the Alps, and has outstanding medical contacts.

An hour before, a surgeon specialising in brain and spinal injuries arrived at the hospital where Schumacher was being treated for a 'very serious' head injury.

Bloody hell  I'm not massively surprised about the ski incident though as I knew he was a bit of an adrenaline junkie and likes doing 'outdoorsy' stuff but him now being critical is a real shock.

Hope he pulls through anyway, hope they have got control over the haemorrhage and no lasting damage is done, I should imagine the next 12-24 hours are crucial.

Edit; According to reports he was skiing off piste with his son & had full protective gear and a helmet on, smashed his head into a rock & was in 'coma upon arrival' that must have been a real significant blow to the head

You have not done so bad

Who me ? Nah you are confusing me with someone else. Don't do flippancy after reports of serious brain injury. Could be a -10 by tomorrow for you. Well played.

It's not really that surprising, scores of people die every year whilst skiing it just so happens that this time (maybe) it is someone famous.

Surely though, what with the percentage of internationally recognised celebrities being just a tiny, tiny fraction of the global population, it is surprising.

There is going to be a **** (he already was) if the German (mortal enemy) doesn't recover from this. He stands a chance as the helicopter did its job. Thoughts with the patient and his beloved.
