Same here! Got the 27 inch and it's a lovely bit of kit. Still looks as good as the day I purchased it!

Mac owners get the same experience as Linux owners as regards performance. Nothing to do with hardware or how it looks, its the OS.
What about shutting down Mac owners?, for me Linux still shuts down in seconds, not like Windows where I was left waiting for it to decide what to do.

Need to thank Mac, and Android, its helped the push for Games on Linux, steam.

Only problems I have with my iMac are when I use Microsoft Office software. The iMac won't change your life but it will be the best computer you have ever had. Definitely buy from either an Apple store or one of the Solutions stores (one on the Old Shoreham Road near the cemetery, another in Chichester) - the people who work there know what they are doing and are genuinely helpful. As for price, if you work in education or know someone with a student card who can pretend to be the buyer, you can get a discount (10% I think).

I'm finding Libre Office on Linux is getting better compatibility wise with Microsoft Office. What I like about Libre Office it can save and open docs in docx format. Libre Office is never going to be at the same standard as Office but it does the job very well for something that is Free.

When I was waking the computer from sleep the cursor would be stuck in the top left of screen. I usually had to reboot to get the trackpad back! Seems to have sorted itself out now though.

I bought my first iMac in 2005. My Dad still uses it today and it works perfectly.

That's a good enough reason for me to recommend them to you.

For a non Mac machine i recently got a all in one pc built to my specification by pc specialist . Very impressed . I got exactly what I wanted and it was built and delivered in 5 days . The same spec on a Mac was double the price

In two years that PC will be worth about 27p, whilst the Mac will be worth well 60-70% of the new price.

Easier to upgrade though.

Oh and regards previous question it was just mainly getting peripherals to work and light fannying about, my family are useless with any technology - I wouldn't have mentioned it but there was a request to complain about macs. They are pretty and well built. The locked in nature of apples ecosystem and their approach to DRM are what keeps me away. Of course you do pay a premium for name and image, but not a truly ridiculous one (like Beats headphones).

There is no locked ecosystem when it comes to the desktops though.

I was up for buying a G5 Mac about 10 years ago, but then Linux started to get better so I didn't feel the need to buy one in the end. Linux for me does everything it should do. I don't miss anything and now Linux has steam and more games coming it's way it just gets better. Of course I will never enjoy the latest Photoshop or Dreamweaver, but I use Photoshop 7 and Dreamweaver 8 using Wine which runs Windows programmes without the need to install a Virutal Machine in Linux. Doesn't run all Windows software but again it does get better, and on top of that I can still install a Virtual Machine if I want using Virtual box.

I'm not a Mac expert myself but if it does do that I think it is sad. It is the thing that Windows used to be famous for, looking people down to a particular product and not letting them get out. I think before Mac become really popular it had a special place for me. It was the escape from Windows I was looking for, until Linux got better. Mac was different, and it was a lot more open than it is now.

Macs have just as many options to play music as Windows. I bloody hate iTunes too.

Because if it's the £899 budget iMac released last week the ram is soldered

There is nothing better than upgrading your RAM and seeing the difference. This type of thing takes all the fun out of computing for me.

It is things like this that really puts me in two minds about converting to apple. On one hand I can see the quality of their products (I want one for music production) but I hate the unjustified cost, the locking people in and the inflexibility of using other products. It would feel a little like getting into bed with the corporate devil.
