The list of competitors certainly has a fresh feel about it. Someone is going to make a big name for themselves in the next fortnight.

My thoughts on the draw - to use a snooker analogy - are: "Rack up the balls, it's the near cue for me, far cue Crodo."

Ali Carter has a great record at the Crucible. Don't be so down on your draw.

McManus is enjoying an Indian summer as a professional this season. Certainly got a chance against fellow Sweatie John Higgins, who is not the player he was two or three years ago.

Would you agree with me that it's the tie of the round?

There's no ties which really stand out as top quality. Shaun Murphy v Jamie Cope could have a few centuries in if both players are at their best. Mark Selby v Michael White could produce the biggest shock as Selby has played so much snooker this season and White is one of the best young players around, who was a quarter-finalist last year.

For nostalgia, Higgins v McManus will get a lot of BBC coverage and they're good pals as well.

Good point, often when players who are good friends play each other the quality can suffer, particularly when the stakes are so high as in this match.

Think most of the seeds will be okay.

My three possible shock winners would be Kyren Wilson, Martin Gould and Xiao Guodong.

In the last tournament before the Crucible, the China Open, Marco Fu did actually play Mark King. What a Fu-King game that was, etc etc
