Philander drops a dolly at long off... Bairstow gets a life on 7... could be costly!

164-5, lead 261

and now Broad first ball... 182-8 at lunch, lead 279.

7 wickets for 63.. not quite the session England had planned!

Very unexpected, a combination of a pitch deteriorating and the panic of a collapse. Hopefully we can sneak past 300 and that the pitch continues to misbehave for SA.

Makes for a better game imo.

I'd be fairly confident setting them 320 or more. Even 250 on this pitch would be tough and you would make the bowling team favourites

Interesting stat from CricInfo

England batting in first session of day:

D1: 82/4
D2: 101/5
D4: 63/7

All other batting sessions combined: 394/2

One thing it does do is take the pressure off new captain Root... the Comm Box Captains always want ridiculous early 'attacking' declarations.
