As you're so morbidly obsessed with all things Labour, this might get you excited - Jennie Formby was actually the first speaker/support act for the first date of Jeremy Corbyn's very successful, critically acclaimed and popular 'For the many - not the few' UK Victory Tour/Election war footing rallies last summer in St. Leonard's. (Oasis, The Charlatans, The Sex Pistols - I've seen her live, raw and unleashed too.) There were 2 things that struck me about her:

1. She mentioned Labour's positive results in the South East at the election: Canterbury, Portsmouth South, Brighton Kemp Town. The swings to Labour that show they can be won next time - Crawley, East Worthing and Shoreham and so close here in Hastings & Rye to ousting the awful Amber Rudd etc, etc - But not one mention - not one - of Dr Peter Kyle in Hove though. Not one mention whatsoever.

2. 20 years ago she would have been an absolute stunner. :thumbsup:

Forgive my ignorance (on NSC? yeah right :lolol:) but why is the painting anti-semetic? Looks like it is more about rich people playing monopoly on the backs of the poor. Its got illuminati insignia on it but they are not necessarily Jewish are they?

yes. its ticking conspriacy theorist boxes, mainly the idea that Jewish banking cabal runs the world. your average person wouldnt think anyting of it, but its what they call dog whistling, to be seen by those that know.

You asked a question, someone kindly answered and your response is to not listen. Perhaps do some reading for yourself on the history of anti scemitic imagery ? You are giving the impression of not wishing to uinderstand. You are rather insensitive about a subject you seem to know very little about. Thankfully Jeremy Corbyn,to his credit, knows a little more.

So criticising the illuminati or big business's making money on the backs of the populous is anti-semitic?

I suppose this is similar to being called anti semitic for criticising the Israeli government.

I think I need to keep searching for why this painting is anti-semitic.

I don't feel comfortable with our artists, musicians, and other social commentators being silenced for expressing their opinions of what is going on in the world.

You are in denial. Even the artist says there are Jewish figures around that table (look at the stereotypical facial features). The history of anti scemitism is one of creating myths such as this about powerful, secretive Jewish financial interests and thereby whipping up anti Jewish feelings.Are you really saying that this is what is going on in the world and we need to protect artists' rights to produce this kind of work ? Perhaps take a look at the fake news in the late 19th century about plans for Jewish global domination.This fed the anto scemitism of the early 20th century. The painting we are discussing echoes that conspiracy theory which is why Jeremy Corbyn has reflected on his original kneejerk response and has condemned it.

One of Mear One's works, a mural entitled Freedom for Humanity painted on a wall in Brick Lane, London in 2012, attracted controversy in the media when commentators likened it to antisemitic propaganda in Nazi Germany.[7] The mural depicted a group of elderly bankers or businessmen sitting around a board game that resembled Monopoly and was supported by crouching naked human figures. Above the group was an Eye of Providence pyramid symbol, and to the side stood a protesting figure bearing a placard with the slogan "The New World Order is the enemy of humanity". Ockerman has stated that the figures represented an "elite banker cartel" consisting of the Rothschilds, the Rockefellers, and the Morgans, and that the pyramid symbolised Freemasonry.[8]

Lutfur Rahman, then Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said "the images of the bankers perpetuate antisemitic propaganda about conspiratorial Jewish domination of financial and political institutions"[9] and ordered it to be removed.[7]

Thank you, yes I read it. Where are the faces of powerful financial figures from other races ? There are extremely rich and powerful Middle Eastern and Asian businessmen but they don't seem to get a mention. Instead the same tired narrative of Jewish conspiracy gets another airing. I give up, your mind is closed to history.

I am currently looking at this mural and reading about the intentions of its artist and reading different opinions about it. You however, have clearly made up your mind about it, and about me and there is no shifting your opinion. If you are really interested in my opinion about this piece of art I will do my best to post it, then presumably if it doesn't tally up with yours you can call me some variation of anti-semitic while considering me living in denial with my mind closed.

I've read 3 posts of yours prior to this. The first is glib and completely dismissive of the whole thing. The second is to proclaim your ignorance but also tempered with a definite bias towards one view.

Then someone took the time to explain to you why they thought it was anti-Semitic. Your response was a straight cut and paste with no attempt at explanation or analysis by your self.

Speaking for myself, I don't really need to hear any further opinions you have on the matter. You've already said enough for me to make my mind up. Perhaps have a look at Eddie Marsan or Al Murray's opinions on this. Extremely persuasive and without any political bias,

Labour MPs challenge Corbyn on antisemitism and Brexit

A formal request was sent yesterday to Corbyn’s office from representatives of the powerful parliamentary committee, the representative body of Labour MPs, saying they wanted him to attend to address their concerns.....

“It is horrifying that anyone in our party – never mind the leader – should be able to condone antisemitism without facing consequences.

“And rather than facing up, Jeremy Corbyn has chosen to dissemble to defend himself. It is simply not credible to suggest that a man with his knowledge of foreign affairs did not recognise those images for what they were.

“Many of us would call for a formal disciplinary process, but the sad truth is that our party has been so badly undermined that no one would believe it would be meaningful. Jeremy Corbyn needs to appear before MPs on Monday to address this crisis.”

Can't find anything about either opinions on the subject but I would be interested to read them.
