It's the lack of shame that makes this (and every Tory scandal) so funny. We are all doomed ants with horrendous flaws. Why not just admit it? Alright, it's extreme and he's keen not to get a sentence, and he might need to think about why his tastes are so grim and whether high office is really right for him if he can't control his willy and dubious desires. But he's in a party of vainglorious, inhumane pig-****ers. He'd almost definitely get away with it if he apologised righteously enough.

I think I read the content was legal at the time but would not be now. As I understand it, in the meantime the law has changed to ban the type of porn that involves violent criminal acts. He should walk.

Green was unlucky that the police seized his computer in 2008 as part of an investigation into Home Office leaks requested by the Cabinet Office. Green was not charged with any offence at that time, and there is no suggestion that he was viewing illegal porn.

His problem now it that he can't prove he wasn't looking at porn, and the statements of a retired police officer, diary notes about the incident that were presented to that officer's superiors are persuasive.

Can a bloke who viewed thousands of pornographic images at work in Westminster remain as Deputy Prime Minister? I don't think so, especially as most of the electorate would regard this as a sackable offence in almost any other workplace in the UK.

No, not at all. But the nature of what was found on his computer has been described as extreme. I don't think we're talking A2M or PAWG here.

There have been examples of disciplinary action being taken. In 2012, the deputy leader of Leicestershire County Council stepped down after admitting watching hardcore pornography on a work laptop. In 2013, Welsh government data showed 55 staff members had been caught downloading legal pornography on their work computer in the past six years, with 15 disciplined for downloading images showing sex or full nudity.

If it wasn't him looking at the smut then he should be sacked for a breach of security as he was logged into a work laptop at the time and any kind of malware or virus could have been downloaded with the filth

From what the detective has said they found 1000s of thumbnail images in his temporary internet files, he wasn't downloading and creating a library of images. That obviously doesn't excuse him, it does highlight how much the media will twist things to make the story sound better.

If anything he should be sacked for not incognito browsing or bothering to clear up his temporary internet files !

The point about the length of time he spent browsing porn is just hearsay at the moment - the only evidence is the word of a disgruntled ex-copper who is breaking confidentiality rules in order to score political points, it's not exactly watertight.
