Gambling has never appealed to me and so I've never placed a bet in my life. As such, most of the betting terminology on this thread is like an impenetrable foreign language to me.

I had seen the Profit Squad sticky but as gambling isn't my thing hadn't bothered opening it until I read HT's comment above, which intrigued me. So I've just read most of the Profit Squad thread and I can't help thinking that this isn't going to end well. I fully understand the principle of using the free bets on offer to guarantee always being on the winning side, but if the price of doing this is to open as many on-line betting accounts as possible, there will be many damaged people and wrecked lives as a result.

I must be getting old as I was genuinely sad to see this service being promoted on a forum I've come to consider as 'home' because I know that some on here tempted to sign-up will get badly damaged as a result. Guaranteed.

I totally agree with this. A big concern I have is stuff like this often attracts society's more vulnerable. I really hope I'm wrong but this really doesn't look good.

I've also been asked to refrain from asking questions on the other thread. Given some of the stuff which seemingly goes unchallenged on this site I found this a little odd and, well, strangely defensive.

It's not sure it's (just) vulnerable. I'm by no means vulnerable but anyone with a mildly addictive (and worse) character needs to be prepared for what might happen. As Swillis eluded to, most people that fall into this category are in denial; either that they do it to the extent that they do, or they do it and make money

Presumably we're still allowed to discuss the other thread more openly on this one? Must admit I never realised until now just seriously in the hole to gambling some NSC members have been. Scary sums being admitted to. From that point of view,it's probably been quite therapeutic for some to be able to discuss it on here. May well serve as a cautionary tale for others. And that's all good. However, it's the seductive reassurances of The Profit Squad responses to posters queries that I find vaguely disturbing. That and the crass come-on of the thread title. If that title came up as an unwanted pop-up, most would dismiss it instantly. As someone else said on one or other of the threads, this offer should come with a massive health warning.

I've been banned and at least one more poster has been banned from even reading the thread. The last thing we did was question someone's first post on here as it was supporting the Profit Squad.

It seems odd when every other discussion can turn into a binfest that this one is protected so much.

If you are someone interested in the offering with a genuine query about how you may use it, then feel free to question away. I'd say you're clearly not though.

It's not a typical NSC discussion, it's a paid advert. As is the case with all NSC adverts, I give the advertiser the option of leaving the thread open or closed. Open always comes with a health warning because it seems regardless of what the offer or advert is for, some people can't help themselves to stick the knife in, in some way.

When someone has paid money in support of the site to place their advert, it doesn't feel right to me to allow some to repeatedly try and pick the product apart, or to dissuade others from forming their own opinion.

A fair amount of that has already happened on the Profit Squad thread and whilst I understand those concerns, nothing new was being ventured.

As above, it's not a discussion, it'a a paid advert where the advertiser is receptive to answering questions about their service. Knowing many of the personalities at play, I am able to make a call between those who are snide and troublesome and those who aren't. Concerns had been raised, and answered yet it seemed some wanted to keep going, seemingly with no actual interest in using the product, so I made a call. Sorry if you think it was the wrong one on this occasion.

Fair enough. It seems quite a few share my thoughts on NSC being associated with something like this. That said, it's your site, not mine, and whilst I don't agree I understand and I'll leave it here.

I echo a lot of people's sentiments about the profit squad thread. I have an addictive personality, coupled with a history of mental health problems. Do I like the idea of free money? Of course. Am I going to risk opening accounts with every book in town? Absolutely not. As that, in effect is what they're asking people to do. I think it's terrible form to have something so addictive and dangerous as a paid sticky thread.

Then again, am I being hypocritical? If one of our own had opened a pub, and paid for a sticky, would that be as bad? In my mind, I dont think so. These guys feel very much to me to be snake oil salesmen. Dunno. It's tricky!!!

There have been paid adverts/promotions for gambling on NSC before. Proper gambling. "Open an account, get some free bets and have some fun" gambling. As others have said, matched betting isn't gambling, it's a "follow the maths to guarantee a profit" system.

As someone who, as I've posted on this thread, probably got quite close to being a 'problem gambler' in the past I accepted the promotion because I know that for me following a system is something I can readily do. I think one or two others posted on the sponsored thread who were gamblers, took up matched betting and no longer bet in the traditional way.

However, I'd have to be perculiarly thick-skinned to not take on board comments made which is why, only yesterday, I declined an approach for an advert for more traditional gambling that could have been pretty lucrative for the site.

Would someone with an addictive personality really be that interested in their slow accumulation method, I probably wouldn't be and I enjoy gambling. I don't have the patience for all that frigging around.

For me it would be the sheer number of accounts that I would have at my disposal. I've got an account with sky bet and bet 365. That'll do for me.

Yep, I got removed from the thread. Okay, I used a naughty word, as many do on here all the time, a word I might add that isn't even censored on here at any other time. I guess you pay yer money you can get people to shut up while your trying to sell them a questionable scheme. Boring thread full of flash Harry salesmen anyway.
But as you say, not my board, not my decision.

Therein lies the rub! Having done it and been exposed to all the wonders and riches of Sportsbooks and Casinos it's very easy to slip over to the other side and look for instant gratification. Once hooked the rest is fairly predictable.

Doesn't apply to everyone of course and just as a balance for Bozza my mate who introduced me to Matched Betting is also a gambler at heart. But he has his Mrs manage everything, he keeps detailed spreadsheets and it's her card that's used for deposits so he's totally transparent. He couldn't go off the rails even if he wanted to (and he would).

Anyone going in needs to with eyes wide open, and putting up measures to prevent becoming reckless is something many might want to consider

All this splitting us up into categories feels like myself, and a few others, have been marginalized.

Cat 5 - just not very good or lucky at gambling - feel free to join me.

Would that make a difference to you, the amount of accounts? I don't use online accounts I use cash down the bookies or at the races, but if there was five bookies down the high street I wouldn't go into all of them for a bet. I'm not having a go at you, just interested why you regard having half a dozen accounts more of a risk than one or two.

As I said, I steer clear of backing online, mainly because tapping numbers on a screen has a sense of unreality about it compared to physically handing over money to a cashier.

I was really annoyed by LFC getting a shirt sponsor BetVictor on their warm up kits tbh. Too much of it around and don't get me started on sky bet which seems to invade my whole tv experience!
It shouldn't be stuffed down our throats, , if you want it you should have to go after it, ,not the other way around.

Don't mention Ray Winstone or that stupid bimbo on the Coral adverts when every match is on TV

For anyone who does like a gamble, I've been given a 'tip' (if 8/1 is classed as a tip).

Top Beak, 17.05 Haydock. Jim Crowley, top of the flat jockeys championship currently is on it. De Sousa who is 2nd is on the favourite, but their isn't much difference between the favourite and Top Beak.
