Alonso should have already had two yellows by the time he elbowed Knocky (drawing blood) when he was lucky not to see red (unlike our French hero).

He eventually got a yellow but should have been off.

Other than that - he did ok.

Random refereeing at its best , Alonso should have gone and Stephens also guilty of some average tackling considering he's only just back from a ban .......if the ref and lino had a spine between them we would have played the last 20 minutes against 10 men lino far to happy to flag for off side but not a professional foul right under his nose ....moving on now , we made a decent fist of it i suppose .....CH now has a pleasant dilemma of finding the best midfield out of the players available .....Bissouma is going to be a class act.

But he wasn't flag happy for their first goal. The rest I agree with.

Immediately after the ref declined to show a red for the last man foul on March, #barberout jumped up out of his seat, ran back three rows, and had a, let’s call it, “full and frank” discussion with the ref assessor. He retook his seat, but “escorted” said assessor up the stairs at FT, where he carried on making the point, but in a calmer manner.

In the first encounter, he was furious.

Good man.

First goal was offside IMHO as a Chelsea player was in front of Ryan therefore affecting his actions but thats more ref assistants area. Alonso should have been carded (red really) for elbow in Knockys face but again refs assistant should have made that apparent to the ref as in the best position. Alonso yellow card arguably red for clearly denying a clear chance at goal for March.

So just on those not the best game for the officials.

I think Assistant referees should be renamed as throw in deciders and partime offside judges as that is all most of them do.

I cannot understand why they don't get more involved . (Watch the Asst refs in a Rugby match they are a team and either of them can report foul play to the ref who then often asks them what action they want to take)

Edit : Oh I forgot. They also make sure the ball is touching the white marking for a corner!

Even worse than those 'assistants' are the ones behind the goal in ECL and WC games. What the hell do they do? I have never seen one make a decision.

You, and several others on here need to learn the laws of the game.

Thunder Bolt is totally correct, you cannot be offside in your own half. You can be offside running back into your own half. I think you should brush up fella.

Murray was offside when the ball was kicked, and in the opposition half.

The free kick can be taken from where the player receives the ball.

He wasn't in our half own half - he was in the opposition half when the ball was played. He was in our half when he received the ball, from where the free kick can be taken.

You need to 'brush up fella'.

Must have been watching a different game, the guy, and his assistants were a complete liability. You, I guess, thought the offside free kick taken 10 yards inside our half was legit? The elbow on Knocky? The pull back on March? The offside first goal - debatable but legitimate? Alonso staying on the pitch? Yeah he was ok for sure.

Get over it ... The Ref and Lino does a job where decisions are taken immediately. With hindsight and TV slow motion replays they are bound to be seen to get some wrong. We get some decisions they get some, always has and always will be the same.

Corrected for you.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offside_(association_football)
Offside is one of the laws of association football, codified in Law 11 of the Laws of the Game. The law states that a player is in an offside position if any of their body parts, except the hands and arms, are in the opponents' half of the pitch, and closer to the opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent (the last opponent is usually, but not necessarily, the goalkeeper).[1]
